Role Summary:
Will manage, maintain, and optimize Oracle database environments. The role covers backup and recovery, performance tuning, monitoring, security, high availability, incident and change management, and patching. You will work with infrastructure, application, and storage teams to maintain stable, secure, and high-performing database platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and maintain backup, restore, and recovery processes in coordination with storage teams.
Configure and manage full, incremental, differential, and transaction log backups based on business requirements.
Support disaster recovery drills and conduct periodic backup and recovery tests.
Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly backups through enterprise scheduling tools.
Maintain RMAN Recovery Catalog.
Install and configure Oracle database software and instances.
Apply patches and updates during maintenance windows.
Support vulnerability remediation activities and report updates.
Perform storage and capacity planning.
Track database space usage and configure warning and critical thresholds.
Refresh QA and development environments with production data.
Deploy schema and object changes.
Implement automation for routine tasks (retention, cleanup, statistics, index management, refresh jobs).
Monitor database and hardware health, including logs, free space, sessions, processes, CPU, memory, and disk throughput.
Maintain tablespaces, data files, indexes, and other structural components.
Configure monitoring tools, thresholds, alerts, and custom scripts.
Perform database startup, shutdown, and restart activities.
Conduct continuous configuration reviews to align with best practices.
Configure audit settings and manage audit trail reporting.
Create and maintain standardized database roles.
Manage user accounts, including creation, deletion, unlocking, and role assignments.
Enforce security policies on password complexity, expiration, and auditing.
Support SOX audit requirements.
Monitor workloads and recommend improvements for resource optimization.
Capture and analyze SQL traces and event data for troubleshooting.
Review SQL activity using performance tuning tools.
Identify and resolve locking, blocking, and space or performance issues.
Review instance configurations to maintain optimal performance.
Generate and analyze AWR and ADDM reports.
Provide recommendations for storage performance and backup policies.
Build and maintain high-availability environments, including RAC.
Add or remove RAC nodes as needed.
Configure services to support performance and throughput.
Create and maintain snapshots, materialized views, and database links.
Manage Data Guard environments (physical and logical).
Maintain ASM configurations.
Provide break-fix support, maintenance, and enhancements.
Document root cause, impact, corrective actions, and mitigation steps.
Prioritize, resolve, and follow up on incidents and service requests following defined processes.
Execute planned, standard, and emergency changes.
Review and process database change requests.
Document and complete all change activities in line with change management policies.
Participate in planning sessions and feasibility analysis for remediation.
Apply patches during maintenance windows and validate results.
Provide updates in internal TVP calls and maintain monthly reports and exception logs.
Skills and Qualifications
Strong experience administering Oracle database environments.
Proficiency in RMAN, Data Guard, ASM, RAC, and performance tuning tools.
Solid understanding of SQL, PL/SQL, and Oracle internals.
Experience with monitoring platforms and automation scripting.
Familiarity with SOX compliance and security best practices.
Ability to troubleshoot complex performance and availability issues.
Strong documentation and incident/change management skills.
