Your Role
As a Medical Coding Manager - Inpatient, you will:
  • Supervise and support inpatient coding staff, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Monitor coding productivity, accuracy, and turnaround time for completion of inpatient records.
  • Ensure timely resolution of coding-related edits, billing holds, and denials.
  • Oversee departmental budget compliance.
  • Monitor and support coding audits and accuracy reviews to ensure compliance with ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, and applicable CMS/OIG regulations.
  • Address coding-related denials and partner with billing and A/R teams to identify root causes.
  • Stay updated on regulatory and coding changes and disseminate guidance to the coding team.
  • Ensure coding policies and procedures are current and reflect the most compliant and accepted practices.
  • Collaborate with CDI, HIM, Revenue Integrity, Billing, and Clinical departments to ensure clean claim generation.
  • Support Charge Description Master (CDM) accuracy through collaboration with revenue integrity.
  • Coordinate with IT on encoder, EHR, and Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) system optimization.
  • Provide regular coder education on updates, documentation changes, and audit findings.
  • Mentor coding supervisors or coders to support succession planning and career development.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate documentation for coding and reimbursement.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You Need
Non-negotiables
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years medical coding experience, with at least 2 years in coding leadership. Experience managing hybrid/remote teams.
  • Education: Bacheloru0027s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Credential/Certification: Active Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP).
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (PHRN or USRN) preferred.
  • RCM Knowledge: Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, diagnostic/procedural coding, MS-DRG, APR DRG assignment, HCCs, NCCI edits, POA, SOI, ROM, HACs, PSIs. Knowledge of medical necessity concepts and HIPAA regulations.
  • Software Knowledge: Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR B2 minimum).
Preferred skills/expertise
  • Masteru0027s degree or credential in business, healthcare, or related field.
  • Experience with Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) systems.
  • Encoder experience (3M, Solventum, Encoder Pro, Codify) preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and data analytics tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Prior experience with US healthcare providers or payers.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-up, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and manage complex multi-workstream projects.
  • Demonstrates teamwork, integrity, and professional communication.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in a matrixed environment.
