The Opportunity

The Senior Technician, Development Product Engineering (DPE), is a key technical expert responsible for providing advanced hands-on support for the development, characterization, and validation of Allegro MicroSystems new integrated circuit (IC) products. This role involves executing complex test plans, leading troubleshooting efforts for challenging hardware issues, and mentoring junior technicians. The Senior Technician will leverage their deep experience to improve lab processes and contribute significantly to accelerating our product development cycle, ensuring our innovative solutions meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

What You Will Do

Advanced Product Testing & Characterization:

  • Independently execute complex and non-standard test plans on new ICs and evaluation boards using a wide range of advanced lab equipment.
  • Set up and configure intricate test benches for specialized characterization tasks (e.g., thermal, high-speed, precision measurements).
  • Collect, validate, and organize critical test data, often identifying subtle anomalies or trends for engineer review.

Expert-Level Troubleshooting & Debugging


  • Lead troubleshooting efforts on complex hardware, test setup, and prototype failures, often requiring minimal supervision.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic techniques to perform root cause analysis on challenging technical issues.
  • Propose and implement effective solutions to resolve hardware and test-related problems.

Mentorship & Technical Guidance


  • Serve as a technical mentor and resource for junior technicians, providing guidance on test procedures, equipment operation, and effective troubleshooting methods.
  • Assist in training new team members on lab best practices, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.

Lab Process Improvement & Documentation


  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve lab efficiency, test methodologies, and data collection processes.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of test procedures and technical documentation.
  • Maintain meticulous records of complex test setups, results, and debugging efforts.

Hardware & Lab Management


  • Perform expert-level assembly, modification, and rework on complex prototypes and fine-pitch PCBs.
  • Take a lead role in maintaining the calibration, functionality, and organization of critical lab equipment and workspaces.

Who You Are


  • Education: Associate's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field is required. Bachelor's degree is a strong plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5-8 years of extensive hands-on experience as a Technician in a semiconductor, electronics, or similar high-tech product development environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior team members or leading complex technical tasks is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expert proficiency in operating and troubleshooting a wide range of electronic test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power supplies).
    • Advanced ability to read, interpret, and debug complex schematics and circuit diagrams.
    • Expert-level skills in fine-pitch soldering and complex PCB rework.
    • Strong proficiency in data organization and analysis using tools like Microsoft Excel.
    • Experience with basic programming/scripting (e.g., LabVIEW, Python) for test automation is highly preferred.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills with an exceptional eye for detail.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical issues and mentor others.
    • Proven ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and to take ownership of challenging tasks.
    • A proactive and continuous improvement mindset.
    • Highly organized and able to effectively manage and prioritize multiple complex tasks.
