Job Summary:
The Jr. Cost Accountant is responsible for preparing, encoding, and analyzing cost records, reports, and financial data. The role ensures accurate data of costing, monitors variances, and supports budgeting and inventory control processes to help management make informed financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and record product costs, including materials, labor, and overhead.
- Monitor cost variances and investigate significant differences from standard or expected costs.
- Prepare monthly cost reports, profitability analyses, and inventory valuation reports.
- Maintain and update standard cost structures in the accounting system.
- Work closely with operations, purchasing, retail branches, and warehouse departments to verify actual costs.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, especially related to cost of goods sold (COGS), raw materials, and production costs.
- Ensure compliance with internal control procedures and accounting standards.
- Support audits by preparing required schedules and documentation.
- Recommend improvements to accounting systems, cost processes, and operational efficiencies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, preferably in a retail, manufacturing, or warehousing environment.
- Proficient in MS Excel and familiar with accounting systems.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Must be trustworthy, proactive, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Willing to work on-site and travel to warehouses or branches if necessary.
