Reporting Line:

  • HS & Supply Chain Team Supervisor

Primary Responsibilities:

Health & Safety Coordinator:

  • Assists the HS Team Leaders in ensuring the laboratory is complied with the environmenthealth, and safety (EHS) regulations, energy management, company policies and procedures and international standard requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, identify hazards related to microbiology, chemicals, equipment, and cross-contamination.
  • Oversee Incident and Emergency response, lead responses to spills, exposures, accidents, and contamination events.

Supply Chain Coordinator:

  • Responsible in sourcing suppliers and service providers as well managing vendor relationships to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of laboratory consumables and services.
  • Collaborate with various departments, suppliers, and logistics providers to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
  • Coordinate with laboratory supervisors to effectively monitor the SGS Equipment Database and ensure that all laboratory equipment is calibrated.

Specific Responsibilities:

Health and Safety Coordinator:

  • Develop, review, and issue HS procedures, guidelines, and work instructions, validated by competent personnel.
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments, internal inspections, and Health and Safety audits across laboratory sites.
  • Lead incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking within defined timelines.
  • Design and implement HS training programs based on gap analysis, regulatory updates, and operational risks.
  • Act as the Health and Safety focal point for laboratory operations, providing guidance to site leaders and staff.
  • Represent SGS in Health and Safety-related matters with regulators, auditors, clients, and internal stakeholders as required.
  • Support emergency preparedness, drills, and response readiness across laboratory sites.

Supply Chain:

  • Oversee requisition, procurement coordination, and inventory management for laboratory consumables and critical supplies.
  • Monitor and control key inventory metrics, including months of cover, obsolescence, expiry, breakage, wastage, pilferage, stock-outs, and emergency purchases.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Operations, Finance, QA, Procurement, and Sales to align demand planning, budgeting, and operational needs.
  • Monitor supply chain performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve availability, cost efficiency, and planning accuracy.
  • Ensure supply chain activities comply with HSEE, regulatory, and sustainability requirements.
  • Coach and guide team members involved in supply chain execution to ensure discipline and accountability.
  • Establish an inventory management system
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by management to achieve the departmental goal for his/her personal or professional training, education or development as programmed by his/her immediate superior.

  • Complies with the Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Energy (QHSEE) policies and supporting objectives including, but not limited to:
  • Demonstrates strong obligation to SGS QHSEE policies, procedures and work instructions by actively participating in meetings, projects and events, completes required training, intervenes in unsafe situations, refuses unsafe work, and complies fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to HS
  • Perform appropriately and immediately to emergency situations and assist other staff members in maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies within the workplace.
  • Disposes or directs the disposal of waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with the disposal regulations and requirements, and in accordance with SGS Environmental Management System requirements.
  • Reports all incidents, including near misses and hazards, which may affect the achievement of QHSEE objectives in accordance with SGS Incident Reporting and Management requirements.
  • Efficiently uses all equipment, including safety equipment, and company owned property in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to immediate superior.
  • Maintains a safe and tidy worksite according to the organization's 5S program and guidelines.
  • Maintains awareness of the safety and health related hazards and environmental aspects and proposes action plans to control the risks to immediate superior or QHSEE Coordinators
  • Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by SGS management.
  • Fulfills the requirements needed in the success of the QHSEE Management System.
  • Recognizes the potential consequences of not following the established policies, procedures, and guidelines, including not fulfilling the organization's compliance obligations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field background in laboratory or technical environments is an advantage.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in supply chain, inventory management, or operations, preferably in laboratory, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or regulated environments.

Additional Information

Required Skills:

Experience/Technical Knowledge

Strong hands-on experience in:

  • Inventory planning and demand forecasting
  • Stock optimization and working capital control
  • Supplier coordination and risk management
  • Proven ability to manage and improve inventory KPIs (months cover, obsolescence, expiry, wastage, stock-outs).
  • Working knowledge of HSE requirements in laboratory or industrial settings, including chemical handling, waste management, and workplace safety.
  • Training or certification related to ISO 14001 / ISO 45001, or equivalent HSE systems, is an advantage.
  • Experience supporting or implementing Health and Safety programs, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, QA, and Procurement.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence and coach teams without direct authority.
  • Detail-oriented, disciplined, and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Office and basic data analysis tools.
  • Strong written and spoken English Filipino proficiency preferred.

Language

  • Proficient in English & Filipino (both written and verbal).
