The Head of Drafting Department is responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating all drafting and design documentation activities within the organization.
This role ensures accuracy, quality, compliance with industry standards, and timely delivery of technical drawings and documentation. The position oversees drafting managers, establishes workflows, implements best practices, and aligns drafting operations with company objectives.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Drafting Technology, or related field.
- 10+ years of drafting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong expertise in CAD, BIM, and related drafting software.
- In-depth knowledge of industry codes, standards, and documentation practices.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Australian or US drafting standards is advantageous but not essential.

Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise Drafting Department Managers and drafting teams across projects.
- Develop and implement drafting standards, procedures, and quality control measures.
- Oversee preparation, review, and approval of technical drawings, plans, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory codes, industry standards, and company policies.
- Manage departmental workload, resource allocation, and scheduling.
- Coordinate with internal and external clients.
- Monitor project timelines and ensure on-time delivery of drafting outputs.
- Implement and optimize CAD/BIM systems and other drafting technologies.
- Establish training programs to enhance team skills and technical proficiency.
- Evaluate the performance of Drafting Managers and provide mentorship and leadership development.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce errors.
- Manage departmental budget, software licenses, and drafting tools.
- Resolve technical challenges and provide high-level drafting expertise when required.
