Head of Design
Role Overview
The Head of Design is responsible for leading the brand's creative vision and ensuring a cohesive and distinctive design identity across all product categories and collections. This role oversees the end-to-end product development process—from concept creation to production execution—while balancing innovation, craftsmanship, functionality, and commercial objectives.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and creative leader with a strong understanding of design, manufacturing, and market trends, capable of driving both brand excellence and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Creative Direction & Brand Identity
- Lead and shape the overall creative direction of the brand
- Ensure consistency in design language across furniture, accessories, and future product categories
- Drive the development of seasonal and core collections
- Translate brand values into compelling and commercially relevant design solutions
Product Development & Innovation
- Oversee the complete product development lifecycle from ideation to production
- Ensure designs meet standards for aesthetics, quality, functionality, manufacturability, cost, and timelines
- Explore and introduce new materials, techniques, and product innovations
- Develop products that are timeless, functional, and aligned with market needs
Production & Craftsmanship Integration
- Collaborate closely with production and workshop teams to ensure design integrity and execution quality
- Improve operational efficiency while maintaining high craftsmanship standards
- Uphold excellence in detailing, materials, joinery, and finishing
Commercial & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales and Merchandising teams to ensure strong product-market alignment
- Support pricing, margin, and profitability objectives through commercially viable design solutions
- Analyze product performance and refine collections based on market feedback and sales insights
- Collaborate with Marketing on product launches, campaigns, and special projects
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing design organization
- Establish clear workflows, timelines, and accountability measures
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and excellence-driven culture within the team
Qualifications
- At least 10 years of experience in furniture, industrial, product, or related design fields
- Proven track record in leading design teams and managing product development
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and craftsmanship
- Commercially savvy with the ability to balance creative vision and business goals
- Experience working with premium or design-led brands is an advantage
- Familiarity with AI-powered design tools or openness to adopting emerging technologies
