Job Description

EY established a Global Trade - Center of Excellence (COE) to help clients manage export and import classifications, assist with Free Trade Agreements (FTA) solicitation and qualification analysis, and identify other government agencies (OGA) requirements.

The COE consists of a dedicated team of trained individuals responsible for analysing the technical characteristics of products and assigning proper export and import classifications, conducting analysis if products qualify for FTAs and identifying OGA requirements.

Your client responsibilities

  • COE team members are responsible for reviewing the technical properties of a good, assigning the proper import classification based upon the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), and assigning export classification numbers (ECN) for goods.
  • COE team members are responsible for providing HTS and ECN numbers for various countries around the world using appropriate software tools and via collaboration with local EY Global Trade resources.
  • COE team members are also responsible for conducting analysis whether products qualify for FTAs and also for identifying OGA requirements.

The role of the Classification COE Senior will include the following.

  • Drive classification process and review analyst's deliverables
  • Provides technical assistance to team members performing classification
  • Tracks deadlines and due dates for all requested classifications and works closely with Manager and team members to prioritize and meet time frames
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the client's industry, classification needs and deadlines works with team to meet deadlines with quality deliverables
  • Provide in-depth analysis of controversial cases

Our people responsibilities

The Classification COE Senior will also be responsible for the following.

  • Builds strong relationship with all team members mentoring Staff and working closely with the Manager
  • Develops relationship with client and responds to client questions directly as appropriate
  • Provides regular informal feedback to team members, including constructive feedback as well as recognizing outstanding work
  • Develop, mentor and supervise Analysts and Advanced Analysts

Our team is dedicated to providing excellent client service and accurate classifications with fast turn-around time. Classification COE Senior are responsible for assigning classifications to staff members and reviewing all classifications for accuracy. Requirements (including experience, skills and additional qualifications)

Technical skills requirements

Classification COE Senior should have:

  • Experience determining tariff classifications in accordance with the Harmonized Tariff System;
  • Export Control classification knowledge is a plus
  • Additionally, Classification COE Senior should have one or more of the following industry experience or educational background:
  • An undergraduate degree in international trade or licensed customs broker
  • Strong background/experiences/commodity expertise with machinery and equipment or electronics is a plus;
  • Relevant experience working in biotechnology, medical technology and/or pharmaceutical industries (in capacities where understanding the technical aspects of the products is essential, commodity expertise exists).

Additional skills requirements

Proficiency with MS Windows, word processing, database and spreadsheet software;

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;

Strong written/ verbal communication skills;

Ability to analyze regulations and procedures and relate them to operations;

Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills;

Experience managing a team;

Fluency in English is required; and

Fluency in any other language is a plus
