Job Description

The Financial Reporting Lead is a key member of the USA Accounting and Reporting Team, responsible for all aspects of financial reporting for a leading global humanitarian organization. This role's primary responsibilities include preparing consolidated financial statements and disclosures in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IRS Form 990 and supporting schedules, as well as meeting state registration and statutory reporting requirements. Additionally, the position supports the preparation of the Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement (NICRA).

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, proactive, and possesses a strong background in finance and accounting. This position reports to the Financial Reporting Manager and involves interaction with the Global Controller, CFOO, and other senior financial executives. The role also requires close collaboration with the accounting team based at CARE's Shared Services Center in Manila.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

Financial Reporting (35%)

  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and disclosures for CARE USA, including data collection and journal entries for subsidiary consolidation on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare monthly financial results for the board .
  • Prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts for key judgmental areas.
  • Support PeopleSoft COA maintenance with CARE SSC accounting team.
  • Identify and research accounting issues as needed.

Statutory Reporting (25%)

  • Prepare schedules to support CARE USA Form 990 and subsidiary tax filings; manage and coordinate with external tax service providers.
  • Complete statutory reports required by U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Economics, and other government agencies.
  • Provide financial input for surveys and reports (e.g., Forbes, BBB).

Indirect Cost Rate Calculation and Audit (15%)

  • Prepare pro forma and actual NICRA rate calculations.
  • Prepare and coordinate submission of CARE's indirect cost rate calculation to USAID.
  • Support USAID audit requests related to the approval process.

Annual State Registration renewals (20%)

  • Coordinate review and submission of fundraising registrations and annual reports to the states.
  • Prepare and submit annual Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) reports to states.
  • Submission of other regulatory renewals (e.g. tax exemption certificates).

Other Responsibilities as Assigned (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including new and emerging standards
  • Experience with large ERP systems; PeopleSoft preferred
  • Nonprofit sector experience
  • Experience in preparing financial statements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
  • Excellent time management and project management abilities
  • 4-7 years of experience in GAAP technical accounting research and application
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Desired:

  • Experience in public accounting firms (e.g., EY, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, Grant Thornton).
  • Proficiency in Power BI for data visualization and reporting
  • Experience with advanced analytics or dashboard creation
  • Familiarity with other business intelligence tools is a plus
