Financial Controller

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Australian Eastern Standard Time, with a 1-hour break
Salary: $1,800 per month
Job Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead the financial operations of a dynamic construction and fit-out company based in Australia. This remote role requires a strong command of both high-level financial strategy and day-to-day accounting oversight. The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and capable of driving financial decisions that support business growth and efficiency across multiple entities. Experience in retail store or commercial fit-out operations is highly preferred, as the role supports projects related to client-facing environments and physical space development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Financial Leadership:
- Provide financial direction and insights to support business planning and decision-making
- Develop and manage financial strategies that align with the company's growth goals
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning across all departments
- Report on financial health to leadership and recommend improvements where needed
- Accounting & Reporting Oversight:
- Manage daily accounting operations including AP, AR, and bank reconciliations
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports
- Maintain compliance with Australian tax regulations and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with external accountants to ensure proper tax filings and documentation
- Cash Flow & Risk Management:
- Monitor and manage company cash flow, working capital, and financial risks
- Oversee financial reconciliations, including intercompany accounts and credit cards
- Implement controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy
- Process Improvement & Tools Optimization:
- Identify and implement system improvements for finance and administrative efficiency
- Maintain and improve usage of financial systems such as Zoho Books, Xero, or equivalents
- Create dashboards or reports to help leaders make data-driven decisions
- Team Collaboration & Support:
- Coordinate with admin, operations, and project teams to support financial processes
- Lead or support onboarding and access setup for finance-related systems
- Assist with financial training and mentorship for internal staff, where applicable.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of experience as a Financial Controller, CFO, or senior finance leader
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and tax regulations
- Proven experience in managing financial operations, reporting, and compliance across multiple entities
- Proficiency with accounting and reporting systems such as Zoho Books, Xero, or similar
- Background in finance within the retail sector, particularly in store development, franchise operations, or fit-out projects, is strongly preferred
- Strong financial acumen with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, payments, and account management
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
- High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism when handling sensitive financial information
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable, with the ability to anticipate needs and resolve issues before they arise.
