Finance & Payroll Officer

The opportunity
Preacta is an innovative and fast-moving recruitment and talent solutions business, and our finance function is growing with it. We're adding a Finance & Payroll Officer to our existing Finance team to support the growing demands of our business.
This isn't just a back-office support role. Our Finance & Payroll Officer will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely financial operations across payroll, accounts, invoicing, and client management, with a key focus on supporting Preacta's Recruitment Team and our contractor workforce.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years in a Finance & Payroll Officer or similar role.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience processing Australian payroll (including STP, superannuation, leave entitlements, and tax obligations)
- Experience with contractor or labour hire payroll, including PAYG withholding, stapled superannuation funds and ATO employer obligations.
- Solid accounts payable/receivable and client invoicing & billing experience.
- Proficiency in Xero (this is non-negotiable).
- Intermediate or above Microsoft Excel skills.
Soft Skills
- High sense of urgency — contractors rely on accurate, on-time pay and will escalate quickly
- Calm under pressure — payroll query periods can be high-volume and demanding
- Strong communicator — able to explain payroll and super concepts clearly to non-finance contractors
- Discretion — handling sensitive personal and financial information daily
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience working in or with a recruitment business.
- Familiarity with recruitment ATSs or CRMs used alongside financial systems.
- Experience working in a small finance team.
