Your Role

As an AU Senior Accounts Payable and Payroll, you are responsible for:

  • Prepare BAS and IAS for clients in line with ATO requirements.
  • Prepare Income Tax Returns for individuals, companies, trusts, and partnerships.
  • Prepare financial statements, including depreciation schedules for review.
  • Assist with preparation and reconciliation of CGT (Capital Gains Tax) returns as required.
  • Respond to and manage client queries professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Able to answer client's email queries and liaise effectively to understand client needs and provide clear guidance.
  • Identify opportunities for additional advisory services (tax planning).
  • Assist senior accountant and general manager with tax planning and advisory projects.
  • Reconcile accounts, prepare journal entries, and maintain accurate financial records using Xero (and other systems where required).
  • Use Xero Practice Manager (XPM) for time recording, workflow management, and reporting.
  • Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation for compliance and audit files.
  • Support junior team members when required.
  • Maintain high professional standards, ensuring all work is accurate, error-free, and client-ready.
  • Participate in internal training, continuing professional development, and tax updates.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in public practice accounting in Australia.
  • Proficient with Xero; experience with Xero Practice Manager preferred.
  • Experience preparing BAS, IAS, financial statements, and tax returns across entity types.
  • Strong understanding of Australian taxation legislation and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High attention to detail, analytical ability, and organisational skills.
  • Accounting qualification or working towards certification is preferred.
  • Ability to manage varied client groups and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Capability to identify process improvements and technical solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • High attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership and accountability for their work.
