Finance Operations Lead (Standalone Role | AU-Based Client | Fully Remote)

About the Opportunity

We are currently hiring on behalf of an established Australia-based organization operating in the childcare and education sector. The group consists of multiple entities with a strong operational footprint, generating multi-million annual revenue and supported by a growing international remote team.

This is a fully remote role offering the opportunity to work closely with experienced finance professionals, including an ex-accountant business owner, external accountants, and consultant bookkeepers.

The Role

We are looking for a Finance Operations Lead who can independently manage the end-to-end finance function across the group. This is a standalone role, ideal for someone who thrives in an autonomous environment, takes full ownership, and is confident operating with minimal supervision (less than 4 hours per week oversight).

You will effectively run the finance operations of the business, ensuring accuracy, structure, and strong reporting discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Transactional Finance

  • Accounts payable management, including deposits, bonds, and repayments
  • Payroll processing for 80+ employees across multiple entities
  • Bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Intercompany transactions and reconciliations

Accounting & Reporting

  • Preparation and submission of BAS & PAYG
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Monthly P&L review and reporting to management
  • Payroll tax and superannuation preparation and submission
  • Support annual tax return preparation for external accountants
  • Workers compensation, insurance declarations, and related reporting
  • Handling ad hoc finance-related initiatives and projects

Note: Accounts receivable is largely automated. The focus of this role is on finance operations, accuracy, and reporting excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in finance or bookkeeping, preferably within an Australian SME environment
  • Proven experience working as the sole or standalone finance person with minimal supervision
  • Strong hands-on experience with Xero
  • Clear and confident communication skills in English
  • Highly self-motivated, disciplined, and accountable
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-review work
  • Ability to build structure, document processes, and improve workflows
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using Asana or similar task management tools is a plus
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism

Work Setup Requirements

  • Fully remote work setup (home office or coworking space)
  • Dedicated, distraction-free workspace
  • Stable internet connection with at least 50 Mbps speed
  • Modem positioned near the workstation (for phone setup)
  • Willingness to work GMT+8 schedule aligned with Australian (Perth) business hours
