Job Description

Purpose of Role:

As a Quantity Surveyor Measurement Specialist, you will contribute to the delivery of efficient, accurate, and standardised quantity takeoffs using CostX. Your role is critical in maintaining high-quality measurement standards aligned with Australian construction practices while supporting the team in delivering projects on time and to budget.

Key Responsibilities: Establishing Standard Measuring Templates

  • Support the Estimating Team in developing and refining standardised CostX templates for quantity measurement.
  • Collaborate with team members to validate and enhance templates, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and applicability across various project types.
  • Assist in testing and adjusting templates based on project-specific feedback and evolving requirements.

Detailed Quantity Takeoff & Rate Application


  • Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs in CostX following established templates and SOPs, ensuring alignment with architectural and structural documentation.
  • Use CostXs advanced measurement tools to extract precise quantities from digital drawings and BIM models.
  • Accurately apply pre-defined rates in the measurement templates to ensure reliable cost assessments.
  • Flag any discrepancies or misalignments between the templates and project-specific scopes, escalating where necessary.

Documentation & Reporting


  • Maintain clear and accurate records of all measurements, clarifications, and assumptions.
  • Generate clarification registers and basis-of-measure documentation to support transparent communication and decision-making.
  • Ensure takeoff data is organized, version-controlled, and readily accessible for internal review and audit.

Quality Control & Accuracy


  • Implement quality control checks to verify measurement precision and integrity.
  • Cross-check completed takeoffs with project drawings and specifications to identify and resolve inconsistencies.
  • Provide feedback to improve measurement methods and template usability, supporting continuous improvement efforts.

Training & Support


  • Offer hands-on training and guidance to team members in using CostX effectively.
  • Share best practices to increase speed, accuracy, and confidence in quantity measurement.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for measurement queries, ensuring ongoing support and collaboration within the team.

Experience and Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated Australian construction estimating experience.
  • Proficient in CostX and other measurement software.
  • Strong knowledge of cost control systems and industry standards.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in quantity takeoff.
  • Understanding of standard methods of measurement (e.g., ASMM, SMM7) and QS principles.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong English comprehension, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work independently, remotely, and collaboratively via Microsoft Teams and similar platforms.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
