Role Overview
We are seeking an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (potential Chief Technology Officer) who can design and build the technology platform that enables distributed energy at scale not just manage vendors or oversee IT.
Your mandate is to architect secure, scalable, and resilient systems that power customer onboarding, asset monitoring, financing workflows, energy optimization, and data intelligence across solar, battery storage, EV charging, and other Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).
You will ensure technology is a strategic enabler of growth, operational efficiency, and competitive advantage.
This role requires a hands-on technology leader who understands modern architecture, can earn credibility with engineers, and can balance speed-to-market with long-term platform integrity.
Technology Architecture & Systems Vision
- Design the long-term technical architecture (35 year horizon) aligned with business strategy
- Build scalable, secure, and cloud-native systems to support platform growth
- Balance technical debt with speed of execution
- Ensure reliability, security, and compliance from day one
- Architect integrations across hardware (solar inverters, BESS, EV chargers), IoT devices, and software systems
- Evaluate emerging technologies that strengthen competitive positioning
Platform & Product Infrastructure
- Build the core technology stack powering customer acquisition, asset deployment, monitoring, and financing
- Enable real-time performance tracking and portfolio analytics
- Design data architecture that supports underwriting, risk management, and performance optimization
- Develop APIs and integrations to support ecosystem partners
- Ensure systems can scale from pilots to thousands of transactions
Build vs Buy Strategy
- Develop a clear framework for build vs buy vs partner decisions
- Evaluate SaaS, third-party platforms, and custom development options
- Assess total cost of ownership, vendor lock-in risk, and long-term flexibility
- Ensure technology decisions align with capital efficiency and strategic moat
Engineering Culture & Team Building
- Recruit and develop high-performing engineering teams
- Establish clear engineering principles (quality, security, testing, deployment standards)
- Build a culture of ownership, speed, and technical excellence
- Create cross-functional collaboration between engineering, operations, and commercial teams
- Mentor technical leaders and future engineering managers
Data, Security & Compliance
- Implement robust cybersecurity practices and data protection standards
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and industry requirements
- Build monitoring systems for system performance and uptime
- Establish disaster recovery and resilience frameworks
Leadership & Governance
- Partner closely with founders on technology-enabled strategy
- Present technology roadmap and risk posture to board and investors
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear business narratives
- Ensure technology investments generate measurable business impact

Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
- Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in Technology, Engineering, or Business preferred
- 1015 years of experience in software engineering, platform architecture, or technology leadership
- Demonstrated experience building and scaling technology platforms in high-growth or venture-backed environments
- Experience integrating hardware, IoT, or infrastructure systems (preferred for solar, battery, EV charging, or distributed energy contexts)
- Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, cybersecurity, and data architecture
- Experience building and leading engineering teams through multiple growth stages
