Job Description:

Job Summary

  • Entry-level software engineer supporting the PLP Manufacturing IT team. The role focuses on building a strong foundation in software development, system integration, and modern engineering practices, with opportunities to grow into Cell Controller-based factory automation, DevOps, and AI-enabled development initiatives within MIT.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software components under guidance of senior engineers
  • Learn and apply software development best practices, including version control, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Support development and integration of manufacturing and automation systems, including Cell Controller-based solutions
  • Contribute to the use of Azure DevOps for source control, work tracking, and build automation
  • Participate in the evaluation and use of AI-assisted development and automated code review tools
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand manufacturing workflows and system requirements

Requirements/Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree is a plus.

Work Experience:

  • 0-2 years of professional software development experience, including internships, co-op assignments, or relevant academic projects
  • Hands-on experience through coursework, capstone projects, or internships involving software design, development, and testing

Other Requirements

  • Strong foundation in software development fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design
  • Experience with at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, C#, Java, or similar)
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and basic software development workflows
  • Ability to learn new technologies, frameworks, and problem domains quickly
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Interest in automation, manufacturing systems, DevOps, or AI-enabled software development
