Position Summary
Responsible for supporting AboitizPower's market modelling and analytics capability to support long-term strategic and investment decisions; combining deep quantitative expertise with strategic thinking to generate insights on market trends, price trajectories, technology shifts, and policy developments shaping the power and energy sectors
Key focus areas:
Market Modelling and Forecasting
- Develop, calibrate, and maintain power market and other price forecasting models (e.g., capacity expansion models, dispatch models, statistical models, etc.)
- Create long-term scenarios which forecast the impact of key strategic uncertainties
- Define long-term macroeconomic assumptions such as but not limited to, GDP, interest rates, inflation rates, and exchange rates
- Challenge assumptions provided by other SMEs as needed (e.g. demand, committed builds, CAPEX, fuel costs, technical parameters, etc.) to come up with realistic model assumptions
- Ensure the robustness, transparency, and auditability of models through version control, documentation, and validation processes
- Automate analytical workflows using tools such as Python, R, Power BI, Excel VBA, or SQL
Market and Policy Analysis
- Lead deep-dive analyses of policy, regulatory, and technological developments that may affect market structures, price formation, and investment competitiveness.
- Assess the impact of emerging technologies (e.g., storage, OSW, SMRs) and market design changes on AboitizPower's strategic positioning.
- Synthesize market and policy developments into actionable insights for strategy formulation and investment decisions.
Decision Support and Stakeholder Alignment
- Provide market and price assumptions to support feasibility studies, business cases, and portfolio planning.
- Partner with business groups and Finance to ensure consistent use of market views across the enterprise.
- Translate complex technical analyses into clear strategic implications and communicate findings effectively to senior management and the Board.
Leadership and Capability Building
- Build modelling and quantitative analysis capabilities within and beyond the Strategy team.
- Drive continuous improvement in modelling tools, data quality, and analytical methodologies.
- Establish data governance standards and foster collaboration across teams to institutionalize market intelligence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Marketing or any 4-year related course
- Master's degree, an advantage
- At least 4 years of experience in corporate planning or business development or consulting, investment banking, investing or equity research
- At least 2 years of experience in electricity market modelling using forecast tools (e.g., EMCAS, Marketsym, Quafu, PLEXOS, etc.)
- At least 1 year of experience in business plan development and/or evaluation, preferred
- Background in new and emerging energy types and technology, preferred
