Job Description

The Derivatives Onboarding Analyst will report to the Manager of Derivatives Onboarding within the Global Derivatives Services team. The Derivatives Onboarding team supports the Manulife Investment Management and Life Insurance businesses globally by performing all setup steps necessary for the use of derivatives by portfolio managers in their investment strategies, and the execution of derivatives trades by the Trading Desk. The incumbent will be entrusted with maintaining high standards of precision and timeliness in executing onboarding procedures for exchange-traded, over-the-counter, and centrally-cleared derivative products.

You will be a self-starter who is highly organized, and detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate will have a combination of industry experience, critical thinking skills and professionalism.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct derivatives onboarding functions both internally and externally to allow portfolio managers to use derivatives in their strategies and traders to execute derivatives trades.
  • Coordinate derivatives trading operational readiness internally with middle office, operations and collateral management. Coordinate externally with derivatives brokers and custodians.
  • Coordinate with Legal Services to ensure that proper legal agreements are put in place to support derivatives trading.
  • Support the traders need for the best execution by setting up the full range of desired derivatives brokers and continually closing legacy trading gaps.
  • Prioritize resolving derivatives trading and trade matching issues in real time to ensure a smooth post execution process.
  • Ensure that all fund & broker onboarding and legal documentation is maintained as required by the business record retention policy.
  • Ensure that all procedures are followed and checklists completed to meet the requirements of internal audit. Be proactive in updating procedures as needed to keep them current and accurate.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete matrix of accounts, authorized derivative products, derivatives legal agreements and active brokers.
  • Contribute to the successful management of external broker relationships.
  • Take ownership of side projects to clean up records and validate broker setups.
  • Contribute to the harmonization of the derivatives onboarding process with the Asia Derivatives Services team.
  • Continuously evaluate, identify and recommend practices and controls that will increase process efficiency and mitigate financial and operational risks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant undergraduate education - Business Administration, Finance, Economics, etc.
  • Minimum 3 years of meaningful industry experience.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite is required
  • Hybrid Work Arrangement: Amenability and readiness to work onsite and from home anytime (dependent on business need AND/OR current external environment/situation) and must be willing to work on a mid-shift schedule

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exceptional attention to detail, meticulous note-taking and strong organizational skills are required to manage complex tasks accurately and independently.
  • Highly self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to take initiative and progress tasks with different deadlines and priority levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, unwavering integrity, and the agility to thrive in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining good working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend solutions.
  • Asset Manager or Insurance Company industry experience is a n asset.
  • Familiarity with derivative instruments is an asset.
