Job Description
Job Summary: The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the overall installation, performance, security, and continuous maintenance of enterprise database systems within a fast-paced healthcare maintenance organization (HMO) environment. This role ensures optimal database availability, data integrity, and disaster preparedness to support mission-critical healthcare operations, patient care systems, and administrative platforms. The DBA will proactively manage system performance, troubleshoot complex incidents, execute routine changes with minimal operational disruption, and guarantee full data retrievability in emergency scenarios.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administration & Maintenance: Execute the installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and operational administration of core enterprise healthcare databases.
- Performance Optimization & Tuning: Monitor database health and performance; tune execution plans, index strategies, and complex SQL queries to maintain optimal response times for high-volume transactions.
- Backup, Recovery & DR: Implement and test robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery (DR) protocols, including multi-site replication, failover/failback procedures, and routine data recovery verification.
- High Availability & Security: Manage HA/DR solutions (e.g., AlwaysOn, RAC, Data Guard, Clustering) and enforce strict database security controls through access management, privilege controls, encryption, and compliance auditing.
- Incident Resolution & Support: Diagnose and resolve complex operational database errors, connectivity issues, and performance bottlenecks to uphold healthcare system SLAs and operational continuity.
- Change & Capacity Management: Plan and document database modifications in compliance with enterprise ITSM/Change Management standards; forecast storage and capacity needs to support organizational growth.
- Automation & Cloud Operations: Utilize scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python, SQL) to automate administrative tasks and support managed cloud database environments (AWS, Azure, or OCI).
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and updated documentation covering database architecture, standard operating procedures (SOPs), system configurations, and disaster recovery plans.
Job Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
- Experience: 3+ years in enterprise database administration.
- Core Databases: Hands-on experience with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
- SQL & Tuning: Proficient in query optimization, indexing, and stored procedures.
- HA & DR: Experience with backup/restore, replication, and failover (Always On, Data Guard, or equivalent).
- Automation & Cloud: Basic scripting (Python, PowerShell, or Bash) and familiarity with AWS, Azure, or OCI.
- Security & ITSM: Knowledge of role-based access control, auditing, and change management processes.
- Operational Readiness: Strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to support periodic on-call rotations.
