Role: Data Engineer

Shift: Mid shift aligned with UK timezones (start between 13:00–16:00)
Onboarding: First month fully onsite; then hybrid 3 days onsite per week
Summary
We are hiring a mid‑level Data Engineer to build, operate, and improve data pipelines that support market and communications surveillance systems. The role focuses on reliable, scalable AWS‑based ingestion and transformation of structured and unstructured data, ensuring data quality, lineage, and regulatory compliance. You will work closely with surveillance analysts, compliance teams, and cloud engineers to turn business rules into production‑grade data flows.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build end‑to‑end data pipelines for trade, order, market data, and communications ingestion into Snowflake and the firm's data lake.
- Implement automated data quality and completeness checks, validation rules, and reconciliation processes to detect and surface anomalies.
- Provision and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform or CDK (S3, Lambda, EKS, EventBridge, Step Functions, Glue, DynamoDB, Transfer Family).
- Develop tests and CI/CD for pipelines and infrastructure, including unit, integration, and infrastructure tests.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production issues, investigate data anomalies, and coordinate remediation with stakeholders.
- Enforce data governance, lineage, and retention policies in partnership with Data Strategy and Infrastructure teams.
- Translate business and compliance rules into technical specifications, test cases, and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to cost and performance optimisation of data flows and cloud resources.
Required Skills
- Experience in Data Engineering or DataOps with demonstrable ownership of production ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Strong programming skills in Python or Java, and advanced SQL proficiency.
- Hands‑on AWS experience with services such as S3, Lambda, EKS, EventBridge, Step Functions, Glue, DynamoDB.
- Experience with IaC using Terraform or CDK.
- Familiarity with data pipeline frameworks (Airflow, dbt, Spark) and cloud data warehouses (Snowflake).
- Proven practices for data quality and monitoring, including reconciliation, SLA monitoring, and alerting.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with market data ingestion and trading/communications platforms (Global Relay, Bloomberg, ICE, Symphony)
- Knowledge of streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis) and observability tools (Grafana).
- Familiarity with security best practices (IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager) and regulatory compliance in financial services.
- Experience with Snowflake performance tuning, clustering, and micro‑partitioning.
- Certifications in AWS, DataOps, or Terraform.
