Cost Accountant

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Cost Accountant with construction or project-based accounting experience to support the financial performance of complex commercial projects.

This role works closely with Project Managers and leadership to monitor job costs, analyze variances, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure reliable reporting throughout the full project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in job cost accounting, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion, and construction accounting systems, and can confidently explain financial data to both accounting and operations teams.

This is a 100% remote full-time position working with a U.S.-based team.

Pay: Up to $9/hour depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain detailed project budgets and cost forecasts

Track labor, materials, subcontractor, and equipment costs

Perform job cost analysis and variance reporting

Prepare WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion reports

Reconcile project costs with the general ledger

Review billing, revenue recognition, and committed costs

Monitor change orders and budget adjustments

Support monthly financial reporting and close process

Participate in job cost review meetings with project managers

Maintain accurate cost documentation and vendor records

Improve cost tracking processes and internal controls

Support audit requests with detailed financial data

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Minimum 3 years Cost Accounting experience

Experience in construction, electrical, or project-based accounting REQUIRED

Strong knowledge of WIP schedules and job cost accounting

Experience with construction accounting software (CMIC, Viewpoint, Sage, Timberline, or similar)

Advanced Excel skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Strong communication skills with non-accounting teams

Preferred but not required

CPA or CMA

Experience supporting Project Managers

Experience with percentage-of-completion revenue
