We are looking for a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to manage and analyze product costs, inventory, COGS, and cost variances. This role will support accurate financial reporting by monitoring manufacturing and inventory-related costs, performing reconciliations, and providing meaningful analysis to management.
The ideal candidate has strong cost accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and hands-on experience with inventory, variance analysis, and month-end closing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze product and inventory costing to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor and reconcile inventory balances between the subledger and General Ledger.
- Calculate and review Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and gross margin.
- Analyze standard costs versus actual costs and investigate significant variances.
- Perform material, labor, overhead, purchase price, and production variance analysis.
- Review inventory movements, adjustments, receipts, issues, and other transactions affecting product costs.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities related to inventory and cost accounting.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to inventory, COGS, accruals, variances, and cost adjustments.
- Investigate discrepancies in inventory and costing data and coordinate with relevant teams to resolve issues.
- Support inventory valuation and ensure appropriate costing methodologies are consistently applied.
- Monitor and analyze manufacturing and operational costs to identify trends and opportunities for cost improvement.
- Prepare cost accounting reports and management reports as required.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost-related analysis.
- Support internal and external audits by providing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate and organized cost accounting records and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in Cost Accounting, preferably within a manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-driven environment.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting, COGS, product costing, and variance analysis.
- Experience with standard and/or actual costing is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of inventory valuation methods such as FIFO and weighted average costing is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and data analysis.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with large volumes of financial data.
- Good communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
