Job Description

Looking for a disciplined financial owner who brings calm to complexity

The Controller role at Fringe Sport is for someone who enjoys applying knowledge, logic, and structure to create reliable financial systems. This is not a CFO or advisory role. It is a role for a financial professional who takes ownership of execution and finds satisfaction in predictable, trusted outcomes.

When this role is done well, leadership stops double-checking numbers, inventory decisions are disciplined, and finance becomes boring in the best possible way.

If you prefer facts over narratives, systems over heroics, and clarity over urgency, this role is built for you.

The mission

Your mission is to own the financial operating system. You ensure financials are accurate, timely, and decision-ready, with clear cash visibility and enforced controls, without requiring constant leadership involvement.

What you will do
  • Own monthly close and deliver accurate financials on a consistent schedule.
  • Ensure all accounts are reconciled and audit-ready.
  • Maintain clear tracking of owner expenses.
  • Prepare board-ready financial summaries with variances and cash implications.
  • Build and maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast.
  • Surface liquidity risks and tradeoffs early.
  • Own inventory finance and open-to-buy controls.
  • Review open-to-buy monthly with Supply Chain and approve or block purchasing.
  • Design and enforce financial controls and approval workflows.
  • Own AR and AP systems and performance.
  • Direct and review the work of the Accountant.
  • Improve AR procedures to support cash timing.
  • Coordinate sales tax obligations and R&D tax tracking.
  • Audit key vendor invoices and charges as needed.

What success looks like
  • Financials are delivered on time, every month.
  • Cash visibility is clear, current, and trusted.
  • Inventory decisions reflect cash discipline.
  • Controls prevent errors and surprises.
  • Finance operates calmly and predictably.
  • Leadership trusts the numbers without rechecking.

This role is for you if
  • You enjoy structured, analytical work.
  • You prefer enforcing standards over negotiating them.
  • You like applying proven methods rather than inventing new ones.
  • You are comfortable owning deadlines and saying no when needed.
  • You communicate in a direct, factual way.

This role is not for you if
  • You want a strategy-first or advisory role.
  • You dislike routine or repetition.
  • You prefer autonomy without guardrails.
  • You thrive on urgency, ambiguity, or constant change.

Salary Range:$3,000 to $4,000
