Job Title: Construction Lead Estimator

About the Role
We are seeking a Construction Estimator with strong Project Coordination capabilities someone detail-oriented, highly organized, and confident in handling both administrative and technical tasks. This is more than an estimating role: you will act as the Project Coordinator for our estimation and proposal processes, ensuring that all components are delivered accurately, efficiently, and on time.
The ideal candidate will:
Prepare precise BOQs.
Coordinate with engineers, sales teams, and project managers.
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and local contractors.
Lead the preparation of technical proposals and cost estimates.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Estimator Supervision
Lead the end-to-end tender and pre-construction program while providing day-to-day supervision of the Estimator(s).
Allocate and track estimating tasks, set priorities, remove blockers, and ensure deadlines are met.
Review take-offs and BOQs for accuracy; implement QA checklists and sign-off prior to submission.
Maintain RFI, assumptions/exclusions, and risk registers; coordinate seamless handover to delivery.
Run weekly estimating stand-ups and report progress to the Project Director.
Project Coordination & Communication
Work closely with engineers, Project Managers, sales teams, and clients to clarify project requirements and ensure alignment.
Coordinate subcontractor and supplier sourcing, ensuring timely quotes and negotiations.
Lead handover and pre-construction meetings, acting as the key contact point between internal teams and external stakeholders.
Estimating & Proposal Management
Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) from architectural and engineering drawings.
Draft and submit clear, professional proposals for tenders and variations.
Ensure accuracy in all estimating documentation and proposal submissions.
Maintain and update subcontractor/supplier databases and price lists.
Costing & Compliance
Prepare detailed cost estimates, including site-specific costs, take-offs, purchase orders, and full BOQs for Australian residential and commercial projects.
Oversee tender and variation processes, ensuring compliance with project requirements and accurate pricing.
Coordinate up-to-date pricing with local suppliers and contractors.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Minimum 2 years experience in estimating or a construction admin role within Australian construction.
Ability to lead and manage teams and processes: sets direction, supervises estimating work, enforces QA/QC, tracks KPIs/deadlines, aligns stakeholders, resolves issues, and drives continuous improvement.
Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and construction plans.
Fluent in English written and spoken; must be able to write clear, professional proposals.
Excellent organization, multitasking, and document management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and drafting tools like AutoCAD or Planswift.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple tenders concurrently.
Desirable (Bonus) Skills
Experience with trade-specific estimation (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fit-out, etc.)
Familiarity with local and Australian building codes (e.g., NCC).
An engineering or quantity surveying background is highly regarded.
