About The Job Commissioning Engineer

About the role

The role is accountable for ensuring the team is provided with and understands a clear plan to deliver on their responsibilities. He or she is required to work collaboratively with the leads to allow them to provide deliverables on time, in full, and to standard, all in a safe working environment. To achieve this, the commissioning engineer needs to be a supportive and visual leader, enabling their teams to reach their full potential.

Key objectives & responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop understanding and take ownership of vessel specification and contract GA
  • Review planning deliverables - build strategy/site plan/waterfall chart/P6 schedule/Resource Plan
  • Review supply chain deliverables - MTO/EOL/Subcontractor Activities
  • Review Project deliverables - ITP/Vessel Housekeeping Plan/Zone Milestones
  • Review design schedule/deliverables
  • Understand safety requirements and impacts
  • Understand quality requirements (internal and external customer)
  • Understand site support requirements
  • Collaborate with trades and PCM to deliver weekly activity plans for supervisors
  • Timely escalation and collaborative management of issues/risks/constraints
  • Meetings - relative to business needs
  • Development of Documentation pertaining to Commissioning of systems.
  • Delivery of information (design/work instructions/SOP) JIT to point of use
  • Delivery and balancing of resources
  • Timely placement of inter-departmental work orders/requisitions - (including site services)
  • Delivery of parts and material JIT to point of use
  • Unencumbered access to facility/workspace for team and contractors
  • Unencumbered access to relevant specialised tools and equipment for team and contractors
  • Allocation of Housekeeping responsibilities
  • Provide visible leadership to support a safety first culture by ensuring that risks are assessed
  • Implementation of the HSEQ Standards
  • Allocation of HSEQ requirements and responsibilities
  • Build progress in accordance with schedule
  • Take charge of issues/risks/constraints as required
  • Promote and implement continual improvement initiatives through corrective actions arising from incidents or non-conformances
  • Effective communication (toolbox meetings)
  • Training requirements for commissioning team

Essential

Required Skills / Experience / Attributes:

  • Bachelors Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related degree)
  • At least 5 years experience in Marine/shipbuilding
  • At least 4 years supervisory experience
  • Experience and know-how in hydraulic and mechanical technical knowledge
  • Project management skills (budget, resources, schedule)
  • Material Take-off, Technical drawing, AutoCAD, MS Office
  • Familiar with OH&S rules and regulation
  • Knowledgeable in NDT process
  • Knowledgeable in ISO 9001
  • Good mathematical skills

Desirable

  • Marine Engineer (Watchkeeper/Class 2)
