Title: REMOTE Senior Mainframe Developer (CICS/COBOL)
Location: Manila, Philippines remote
Schedule: PH local hours, but need to overlap for a few with PST hours
*This will be a 6-month contract role, full 40 hour work weeks but working on an hourly basis versus salary
About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Mainframe Developer with deep CICS and COBOL expertise to build and optimize high-availability, large-scale systems. You'll design and write online CICS programs from scratch and batch COBOL programs, mentor junior developers, and ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, and security standards.
What You'll Do
- Architect and implement complex mainframe solutions (emphasis on CICS online programs).
- Design and develop COBOL batch and interactive CICS programs end-to-end (not just maintenance).
- Optimize large-scale applications for reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Lead by example: mentor/guide junior developers; contribute to standards and best practices.
- Adhere to security, privacy, and compliance policies.
What You'll Bring
- 810+ years of hands-on CICS development (must have written CICS online programs from scratch).
- Strong COBOL for batch processing (write multiple programs end-to-end).
- Solid experience across mainframe tooling: JCL, DB2, VSAM, ControlM, FILEAID (MVS/DB2), ABENDAID, IBM SPUFI, IBM Data Studio, Xpediter, z/OS, TSO/ISPF.
- Practices: Agile, CI, documentation/knowledge transfer, and mentoring.
- Bonus: Java/HTML experience (nice-to-havebut CICS is mandatory).
