Overview

The Category Head is the business owner for bitumen and asphalt within the company. This role carries full accountability for the growth, profitability, and strategic development of the category by ensuring strong product-market fit, competitive positioning, and commercial success in the infrastructure, road construction, and high potential growth markets.

The Category Head acts as the architect of the category business, translating market and project pipeline opportunities into profitable solutions, and working cross-functionally with Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, and technical teams to bring the solutions to the market. This role operates as a mini-GM for the category by owning its economic performance, market strategy, and long-term direction.

Key Responsibilities

Core Function

  • P & L Ownership - drive revenue growth, protect margins, and deliver on profitability targets with full business accountability
  • Define pricing architecture and trade margins - design a pricing strategy that maximizes margin, reflects market positioning, and holds up against competitive pressure across all channels and product grades
  • Develop and evolve the value proposition - build and continuously sharpen the category value proposition, ensuring bitumen and asphalt solutions are positioned as the preferred choice in infrastructure and road construction markets
  • Shape market entry, expansion & exit strategy - identify, evaluate, and execute market entry and expansion opportunities, and make disciplined exit decisions on segments that no longer deliver strategic or financial value

Priority Tasks

  • Work closely with the Sales Operations Manager to align category priorities with the sales team.
  • Monitor bitumen and asphalt commodity price movements and translate them into immediate pricing and margin responses
  • Track DPWH, LGU, and private sector project pipelines, ensuring the category is specified, positioned, and ready to win
  • Lead product and application development initiatives that open new market segments or reinforce existing competitive advantage
  • Drive integrated business planning across Sales, Supply Chain, and Finance — ensuring category demand, supply, and profitability targets are fully aligned

Leadership & Influence

  • Acts as the de facto P&L owner for the category — influencing pricing, assortment, promotional and channel decisions independently, with accountability to the CEO.
  • Champions the category internally and externally — building credibility with key contractors, government agencies, and industry stakeholders as the go-to authority in bitumen and asphalt.
  • Represents the category in senior leadership and investor dialogues, translating market dynamics into clear growth narratives and investment proposals.

Required Competencies

  • P&L Management — owns the full financial performance of the category; drives revenue growth while actively managing cost, margin, and profitability targets
  • Product Portfolio Management — evaluates, rationalizes, and develops the category product range to ensure every grade and application delivers strategic and financial value
  • Government & Trade Channel Strategy — navigates government procurement processes, contractor relationships, and trade channels to maximize category reach, specification, and revenue
  • Margin Optimization — identifies and acts on every lever available, pricing, cost, mix, and volume, to continuously improve category profitability
  • Technical Specification Development — builds and promotes product specifications that embed bitumen and asphalt solutions into project designs, contractor preferences, and industry standards
  • Integrated Business Planning — aligns demand forecasting, supply planning, and financial targets into a single operating plan that the entire category team executes against
  • Strategic Thinking — connects market intelligence, competitive dynamics, and business priorities into a clear category direction; thinks two moves ahead and positions the category to win

Job Specifications

  • BS/BA in Business, Economics, or Engineering
  • Proven years of experience in Category Management, Brand Management, or Commercial Strategy
