Job Description

Purpose of Role

Merchandising is accountable for overseeing the performance of our key distribution partnerships, the management of direct product categories and the coordination of merchandise operations to ensure the merchandise go to market programs are delivered on-time on in full across the United Petroleum store network.

A key expanding role, supporting the Merchandising function, merchandising services PH, will provide data analysis, and information supporting category managers to understand key drivers, in distribution, product categories and merchandise operations, driving success in through analytics in these key areas.

Additionally, the team will provide POS administration and data analysis, Merchandising Admin support, for supplier income and rebates, together with Planograms and floor plans incorporating new or revised product offerings. Identifying trends in international markets the team will identify new and innovative products for the Australian market to be incorporated in to the merchandise go to market programs.

The roles primary objective is to provide timely information for sales, profitability and net income, working effectively across the Retail, Marketing and Operations teams.

Concentrates on measurement of others achievements, including the effectiveness of promotional or product development programs.

  • Provide Financial Performance Information for:
  • Revenue, profit, and net income targets.
  • Operational cost, and developed in-store efficiencies or improvements
  • Analyse inventory productivity by measuring average unit sales and net income rates in category layouts.
  • Trends for customer acquisition, average transaction value and in-store category conversion.
  • Calculate Sales and Profit per Sq Meter
  • Pricing Management and Data Analysis
  • Coordinates the execution of national price changes.
  • Ensures the distributors provide accurate pricing information to the data and category team and have accurately implemented pricing changes on time.
  • Tracks and Measures category pricing strategies and initiatives to demonstrate improved profit and revenue metrics.
  • Training and Development on Operational Excellence
  • Ensures all CAs understand how to use distributor product ordering portals and develops communications to support the ongoing training and development opportunities for stores in delivering excellence in merchandising and in-store standards.
  • Ensures key retail audits actions are responded to and completed within agreed time frames with the National Compliance team.
  • As a senior role within merchandise, coordinates and works with category managers to support them in developing category strategy and supplier negotiating tactics.
  • New and Retrofit Stores Development
  • Manages all supplier related activities in the delivery of store projects on time, meeting cost budgets and retail standards of excellence in preparing stores for opening.
  • Ensure a high level of engagement with key stakeholders in stores development through regular attendance at store project meetings.
  • Coordinates with the category team, suppliers and CA, consolidates opening stock orders and allocations for new stores.
  • Health, Safety and Environmental
  • Ensures the United Petroleum Groups Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE), policies, procedures, and all regulatory OH&S requirements are complied with in all matters relating to Fuels and QSR/Convenience operations.
  • Ensure compliance with safe food handling and food safety standards.
  • Provides input and support to critical incident responses.

Qualifications And Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated career with over 5 to 10 years in either retail or QSR type environments preferably with franchise experience at a national level
  • A proven track record in retail category and customer experience transformations within a fast-paced retail environment that deliver exceptional value.
  • Strong background in retail or QSR operations, merchandising and promotional planning, category, and food management, managing supplier relationships.
  • Ability to navigate and effectively work in agile, fast paced and ever evolving entrepreneurial environments with a focus on accountability and execution.
  • Sound financial and commercial acumen and ability to work within a high cost-effective.

Key Selection Criteria, Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in similar category roles
  • Bachelors degree in marketing or retail discipline is desirable.
  • An intimate understanding of the current auto & outdoor market, at both a local and global level
  • Impressive negotiation capacity and excellent communication skills
  • Prior experience developing learning & development materials.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary consumer marketing and retail trends and opportunities
  • An excellent working knowledge of category management processes, systems, and tools
  • Previous experience working in a team environment, influencing stakeholders to achieve results.
