Job Description
Satellite Teams is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support growing Canadian and U.S. businesses, including franchise organizations, multi-location operations, and scaling companies. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day accounting functions, and ensuring timely financial reporting.
The ideal candidate has strong full-cycle bookkeeping experience, is comfortable managing multiple entities or locations, and can confidently communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive approach, strong analytical abilities, and a commitment to accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
Full-Cycle Bookkeeping
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
- Record, classify, and maintain accurate financial transactions.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain and monitor chart of accounts across multiple entities or business units.
- Ensure financial records remain accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Analyze financial data and identify discrepancies or unusual variances.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow monitoring activities.
- Generate regular financial reports for management and business owners.
Franchise & Multi-Entity Accounting Support
- Prepare location-level and entity-level financial reporting.
- Support royalty, franchise fee, and advertising fund reconciliations.
- Ensure consistency of accounting processes across multiple business units.
- Coordinate intercompany transactions and allocations when required.
Payroll & Compliance
- Process payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Manage payroll remittances and statutory deductions.
- Support compliance with GST/HST, provincial tax requirements, payroll regulations, and other applicable reporting obligations.
- Maintain documentation for audits, tax filings, and year-end accounting requirements.
Process Improvement & Systems Management
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and processes.
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial documentation standards.
- Optimize the use of accounting software and reporting tools.
- Assist with bookkeeping cleanup projects and process standardization initiatives.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted financial resource for business owners and leadership teams.
- Collaborate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for year-end engagements.
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting team members when necessary.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 1-4 years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience.
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, Zoho Books, or similar accounting platforms.
- Experience with payroll processing and statutory compliance requirements.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting and account reconciliations.
- Experience supporting multi-entity, multi-location, or franchise businesses is highly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Knowledge of Canadian accounting practices, ASPE, IFRS, or U.S. GAAP is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a remote environment.
