Job Description

The core role of the Book Editor is to edit, proof-read, format and write professional content for non-fiction work that we publish. 

The Book Editor will be part of our growing team to produce engaging and inspiring books.

The Ideal Candidate is someone who:

  • A strong writer that loves reading and writing content 
  • Has the ability to understand and translate an author's ideas into a professionally edited book
  • Passionate about books and editing manuscripts that reflect the author and the book's style
  • Has experience with writing in a professional role and is motivated by seeing the results of their work
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all wording included is accurate and at a professional standard 
  • Technical in nature and able to learn formatting and advanced settings in Google Workspace, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat 
  • Experience of the APA Style Guide
  • Lifelong learner that loves a challenge to continually improve and learn more

General Responsibilities

  • Edit Book Manuscripts for our Clients to our High Quality and Professional Standards
  • Proof-Read and Quality Check Book Manuscripts for our Clients to our High Quality and Professional Standards
  • Format Book Manuscripts to a High Quality ready for print distribution
  • Proof-Read and Quality Check Formatted Books for our Clients to our High Quality and Professional Standards
  • Lead and participate in Zoom meetings with clients to present the Editing process, ask questions and gather information on their specific needs 
  • Give suggestions for changes to client's manuscripts and rewrite content where needed
  • Create compelling chapter titles, blurbs and descriptions 
  • Write high quality materials for books and other written content as required
  • Conduct research and analysis to create the best book manuscripts
  • Provide a high quality customer service to authors, answer their questions and provide support as needed
  • Demonstrate excellent project management and organisation skills to manage workflow, with multiple clients running concurrently
  • Make suggestions for ideas and potential improvements to our processes to boost efforts and results
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and tools that will make efforts more successful 
  • Work as part of a team to deliver professional, bestselling books 
  • Miscellaneous tasks to support the team 

Required Competences:

Role Specific:

  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge and skills of professional writing for published materials
  • Have an eye for detail and accuracy to spot and resolve errors 
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace including technical setup and advanced features
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat including technical setup and advanced features
  • Demonstrate excellent project management and organisation skills to balance multiple projects at the same time
  • Eager to learn about book publishing and writing styles for non-fiction books
  • Ability to speak and write with professional English to engage our clients and deliver High Quality Editing & Formatting
  • Have an eye for attention to detail and accuracy to ensure high quality content and communication with all parties
  • Committed to continuous improvement and strives to get their Editing & Formatting work to the highest quality
