About the Role

The Australian Accountant prepares and reviews tax returns with a strong focus on trust taxation, manages compliance requirements, supports financial reporting, and works closely with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely lodgements.

Ideal Candidate (Must-Have Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with CPA or CA as an advantage
  • Experience in Australian public practice with exposure to trust tax returns
  • Proven experience preparing or supporting trust tax returns including distributions and compliance requirements
  • Strong proficiency in Xero, with exposure to MYOB or QuickBooks Online as a plus
  • Solid understanding of GST, PAYG, STP, and Australian tax compliance
  • Familiarity with trust structures, income distribution, and reporting requirements
  • Preferably with experience in BAS, IAS, and TPAR preparation
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data and compliance work
  • Ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple engagements
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Collaborative and able to work effectively with internal teams
  • Amenable to work setup depending on client or business requirements

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review Australian tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts, and companies, with a focus on trust tax compliance
  • Handle end-to-end trust tax engagements, including distribution calculations, beneficiary reporting, and workpapers
  • Ensure compliance with ATO and ASIC regulations, particularly for trust structures
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Australian tax laws, especially trust taxation and income distribution
  • Prepare and review financial statements, BAS, IAS, and TPAR lodgements
  • Reconcile accounts, including bank, credit card, AP, AR, payroll, and intercompany transactions
  • Assist in preparing management reports, cash flow statements, and year-end tax workpapers
  • Process financial transactions using Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks Online to support tax preparation
  • Manage payroll processing aligned with STP and Australian Fair Work standards
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate and timely lodgements
