Job Description

The Assistant Manager - Financial Accounting is responsible for overseeing the integrity of financial records, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and strengthening financial controls in compliance with statutory, regulatory, and internal requirements.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Financial Accounting Oversight & Governance

  • Review and approve accounting entries to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with PH GAAP, PFRS, and company policies
  • Oversee recording and monitoring of premium-related transactions and other critical accounts
  • Ensure proper documentation, audit trail, and adherence to internal controls
  • Identify and resolve accounting issues, including application of new accounting standards

2. Financial Reporting & Close Management

  • Support and coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met
  • Review of financial reports and schedules prior to submission to management and regulators
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements, board reports, and management reports with clear variance analysis
  • Drive improvements in reporting quality, turnaround time, and automation

3. Reconciliation, Analysis & Controls

  • Oversee key reconciliations, including:
    • PFRS 17 vs PH GAAP reconciliation
    • Premium reconciliations (e.g., FYP vs APE)
    • Balance sheet account substantiation
  • Perform deep-dive analysis of variances, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Strengthen balance sheet governance and control frameworks

4. Audit, Regulatory & Compliance Management

  • Act as a key liaison for external auditors (SGV), BIR, Insurance Commission, and other regulators
  • Lead preparation and review of audit schedules and supporting documentation
  • Proactively address audit observations and drive closure of findings
  • Ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements and reporting standards

5. Stakeholder Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Actuarial, Operations, Tax, MBPS, IT) to ensure accurate and timely financial information
  • Engage with shared services teams (e.g., MBPS) to ensure service delivery quality and issue resolution
  • Provide guidance and technical support to team members and business partners on accounting matters

6. Process Improvement & Transformation

  • Identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and efficiency improvements in accounting and reporting processes
  • Actively contribute to Finance transformation initiatives (e.g., Workiva, data governance, reconciliations automation)
  • Support implementation of best practices in controllership and financial reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement mindset within the team

7. Leadership & Team Support

  • Provide review, coaching, and guidance to analysts and junior team members
  • Ensure proper workload allocation and adherence to deadlines
  • Promote high standards of accuracy, accountability, and continuous learning within the team

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, CPA required
  • 5 years of relevant experience, with exposure to financial reporting, audit, or insurance accounting
  • Experience in insurance, PFRS 17, or financial services strongly preferred
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and balance sheet governance
  • Stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to lead processes and influence outcomes
  • Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools (Workiva experience is a plus)
