Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking a Remote Apparel Manufacturing Controller to lead and oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of an apparel manufacturing business. This role requires strong experience in apparel manufacturing accounting, U.S. accounting practices, and QuickBooks. The ideal candidate understands the financial flow of a manufacturing environment, including inventory, blended cost of goods sold, chargebacks, vendor payables, payroll, month-end close, and financial reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Apparel manufacturing experience is a must
  • U.S. accounting experience is a must
  • QuickBooks experience is a must
  • Strong background in accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Experience with month-end and year-end close
  • Solid understanding of inventory accounting, costing, and COGS reconciliation
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP-compliant accounting practices
  • Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Ability to manage cash flow and payment priorities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with leadership, banks, factors, vendors, and external CPAs
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a remote setting

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations across accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll
  • Monitor daily cash flow and coordinate payment priorities based on cash and factor availability
  • Work closely with leadership on approved payments, urgent obligations, and weekly cash needs
  • Ensure receivables are collected on time and past dues are actively followed up
  • Review deductions, short shipments, compliance issues, and open chargebacks
  • Monitor vendor balances, payable aging, payment processing, and posting timelines
  • Oversee accurate payroll processing, timekeeping records, and payroll-related documentation
  • Lead month-end and year-end close
  • Prepare and review bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, amortization schedules, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain accurate inventory valuation and compute blended cost of goods sold for proper gross margin reporting
  • Review account postings and ensure all balances are accurate and properly classified
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial reports, including Balance Sheet, P&L, comparative reporting, and supporting analysis
  • Assist with annual projections, lender requests, due diligence, and factor field exams
  • Coordinate with external CPA firms on financial statement review requirements
  • Maintain relationships with banks, factors, and external partners
  • Support tax audits, insurance renewals, and other financial compliance matters
  • Help train and mentor accounting staff when needed

Preferred Background

  • Experience in apparel, garment, fashion, textile, or sewn goods manufacturing
  • Familiarity with inventory-heavy businesses
  • Experience working with factors, lenders, and overseas vendors
  • Strong understanding of operational issues that impact accounting in a manufacturing setting
