Job Description

Role Summary

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Generalist Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities within the Group. This role is hands-on and broad in scope, covering accounts payable and receivable support, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close activities, and financial reporting assistance.

A key requirement of this role is strong working knowledge of Xero accounting software, with the ability to navigate multiple entities, maintain data integrity, and support accurate and timely financial reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and statutory obligations.

Core Responsibilities C Accountabilities

  • Perform day-to-day accounting tasks across multiple entities using Xero and other accounting software platforms.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger records, including journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Prepare and review bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, allocations, and query resolution.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes in accordance with reporting timetables.
  • Prepare basic management reports and variance analysis for review by senior finance staff.
  • Ensure accurate GST treatment and support BAS preparation and reconciliations.
  • Maintain chart of accounts, tracking categories, and system data integrity within Xero.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external parties (e.g. auditors, advisors) as required.
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, particularly relating to systems, processes, and controls.
  • Provide ad hoc finance and accounting support as required.

Skills Experience

  • 3–5 years experience in a generalist accounting or finance role.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using Xero accounting software (essential).
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
  • Working knowledge of GST and Australian accounting requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working across multiple entities or group structures is highly regarded.
