Xero Bookkeeper

Job description

You will serve as the financial backbone for a four-entity UK business group, owning the full spectrum of day-to-day bookkeeping so that the directors and their local accountant always have clean, accurate, and audit-ready records. You will manage VAT returns, payroll, supplier payments, and receipt reconciliation across multiple businesses simultaneously — bringing order, consistency, and precision to a fast-moving operation. This is a role for a self-driven professional who takes real pride in getting the numbers right and thrives when given genuine ownership of a critical function.

Client Timezone: London 08:00 - 17:00 with some flexibility

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping across four separate companies, ensuring accurate and timely financial records
• Prepare and file VAT returns in compliance with UK regulations for each entity
• Process payroll accurately and on schedule for all four businesses
• Execute supplier payment runs and maintain up-to-date accounts payable records
• Reconcile receipts and invoices uploaded via Dext, ensuring seamless integration with Xero
• Maintain organised financial documentation to support the local accountant during year-end reporting

Must-have requirements

• Minimum 2–5 years of bookkeeping experience, ideally across multiple entities
• Strong working knowledge of Xero and Dext (or a comparable receipt banking system)
• Solid understanding of UK VAT requirements and payroll processing
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• You have managed payroll across multiple entities simultaneously

Nice-to-have requirements

• Bonus if you have prior experience bookkeeping for hospitality or creative/events businesses, where high transaction volumes and supplier relationships are common
• It helps if you have worked alongside an external or local accountant before, with a clear understanding of what clean records look like at year-end
