What will you do

The Water Balance Modeller supports Aurecon's commitment to shaping a sustainable and resilient future by delivering robust, data-driven water balance and flood modelling solutions. The role applies climate data analysis and advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to inform safe, sustainable and client-focused outcomes across infrastructure, energy and mining projects.

Working collaboratively within the Water Resources team, the position contributes to innovative, technically sound solutions that balance environmental stewardship, community impact and commercial value. Through active knowledge sharing and continuous improvement, the role upholds Aurecon's values of integrity, excellence and shared success.

We know the work we do is vital in assisting our world's economic development and, it's the technical expertise and the depth of knowledge of our people that really sets us apart. Here are the key things you will need to have in order to bring ideas to life.

  • Perform statistical analysis of climate data such as rainfall, evaporation and streamflow

  • Calibrate rainfall-runoff models of various waterways using the Australian Water Balance Model (AWBM)

  • Develop, calibrate and simulate water balance models

  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic (1D/2D) modelling to assess flooding on linear infrastructure and various energy and mining projects

  • Prepare inputs for technical reports and other documentation relevant to project submission

  • Collaborate with team members in providing technical solutions and/or innovations to water balance and flooding projects

  • Actively engage in knowledge sharing initiatives

What can you bring to the team

Firstly, you will share our genuine passion for re-imagining engineering and be someone that actively pursues continuous learning to help shape the future. You will also need the following:

  • Demonstrated experience working on water balance modelling tools such as GoldSIM, opSim and RRL

  • Comfortable working with GIS tools such as QGIS and ArcGIS

  • Additional experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling tools such as HEC-HMS, RORB, HEC-RAS and TUFLOW is an advantage

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Bachelors degree in Civil, Agricultural, Environmental and Biosystems Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in hydrology and hydraulics (water balance modelling, flood modelling)
