VeloCloud SD-WAN Architect

Role Summary:

The VeloCloud SD-WAN Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and migrating enterprise network environments to SD-WAN solutions using VMware SD-WAN (VeloCloud) technology. The role ensures scalable, secure, and high-performance network connectivity across global sites while aligning with business and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Architecture & Design:

Design end-to-end SD-WAN architectures using VeloCloud solutions

Develop high-level and low-level design (HLD/LLD) for enterprise deployments

Define routing, segmentation, security, and application-aware policies

Ensure designs align with enterprise network standards and security frameworks

2. Implementation & Deployment:

Lead SD-WAN deployment activities across multiple sites and regions

Configure VeloCloud Edge devices, Gateways, and Orchestrator components

Integrate SD-WAN with existing LAN, WAN, cloud, and security infrastructure

Perform site readiness assessments and cutover execution

3. Migration Planning & Execution:

Develop migration strategies from legacy MPLS/MPLS-based WAN to SD-WAN

Execute phased migration plans with minimal business disruption

Coordinate with stakeholders, carriers, and third-party vendors

Manage rollback plans and risk mitigation strategies during migration

4. Operations & Optimization:

Troubleshoot complex SD-WAN and network connectivity issues

Monitor performance and optimize application traffic routing

Provide recommendations for continuous improvement of network performance

Support incident, problem, and change management processes

5. Stakeholder & Project Engagement:

Collaborate with enterprise architects, security teams, and application owners

Provide technical leadership in project planning and execution

Conduct technical workshops and knowledge transfer sessions

Prepare documentation, reports, and architecture diagrams

Required Skills & Experience:

Strong experience in SD-WAN technologies, especially VeloCloud / VMware SD-WAN

Solid understanding of WAN, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and MPLS networks

Experience in enterprise network design and large-scale deployments

Hands-on experience with SD-WAN migration projects

Knowledge of network security concepts (firewalls, segmentation, VPNs)

Experience with cloud connectivity (AWS, Azure, GCP preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications such as VMware SD-WAN, CCNP/CCIE or equivalent

Experience in global enterprise or multi-site environments

Strong documentation and presentation skills

Ability to lead technical teams and manage client expectations
