Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Review
- Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns, including:
Form 1040
Form 1065
Form 1120
Form 1120-S
Multi-state tax returns
- Review work prepared by Tax Associates and Senior Tax Associates
- Ensure compliance with current tax laws and firm standards
- Identify and resolve technical tax issues
- Monitor filing deadlines and workflow management
Tax Planning & Consulting
- Identify tax-saving opportunities for clients
- Research complex tax matters and provide recommendations
- Support year-round tax planning initiatives
- Prepare technical tax documentation when needed
- Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor for assigned clients
- Respond to client inquiries and communicate complex tax concepts clearly
- Manage client expectations and deliverables
- Support client onboarding and business development activities
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise and mentor Tax Associates and Senior Tax Associates
- Provide constructive feedback and technical guidance
- Assist with performance management and staff development
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment
- Practice & Process Improvement
- Help improve workflow efficiency and quality control
- Monitor engagement profitability and utilization goals
- Contribute to strategic initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications
✅ 7-10+ years of public accounting experience
✅ Minimum 3 years of tax return review experience
✅ Experience supervising and mentoring tax staff
✅ Experience managing client relationships
✅ Strong background in complex individual and business tax returns
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of:
- Individual Taxation (Form 1040, Schedule C/E/F, Section 199A, capital gains, stock compensation, retirement distributions, passive activity rules)
- Partnership Taxation (basis, capital accounts, allocations, distributions)
- S-Corporations (shareholder basis, AAA, reasonable compensation)
- C-Corporations (book-to-tax adjustments, dividends, estimated payments)
- Multi-state taxation, nexus, and apportionment
- Depreciation, Section 179, bonus depreciation
- Tax research and IRS regulations
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
- Boutique or mid-sized CPA firm experience
- Experience working with closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals
- Multi-state client experience
- Tax planning engagements
- Software Experience
