DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a U.S. Tax Preparer, you'll play a critical role in supporting American citizens abroad by ensuring their tax returns are filed accurately, securely, and with care. You will:
- Prepare U.S. individual tax returns (e.g. 1040, 1040NR, FBAR, and related schedules) for expatriate clients in a wide range of countries and life situations.
- Communicate directly with clients exclusively via email, answering questions, requesting clarifications, and providing updates with professionalism and clarity.
- Review and organize client-submitted documents, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and IRS compliance before processing returns.
- Maintain strong attention to detail during peak filing seasons, completing a high volume of returns while upholding accuracy and meeting internal deadlines.
- Collaborate with a senior or reviewer, ensuring that complex or nuanced filings are reviewed and signed off before submission.
- Participate in internal training to gradually develop expertise in expat-specific tax nuances, including foreign income exclusion, foreign tax credits, and treaty positions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must-Haves:
- 1–3+ years of U.S. individual tax preparation experience, including 1040s and related forms.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills - able to write clear, courteous, and professional emails directly to clients.
- Proficiency with tax software, ideally Lacerte (Drake, CCH, or similar is acceptable).
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet consistent targets.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Prior experience serving expat clients or working with international tax returns.
- Interest in growing into a reviewer or team lead role over time.
- Familiarity with FBAR, FATCA reporting, or international tax compliance issues.
