About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Controller / Controller to own our accounting function, oversee our outsourced accounting partner, drive our 2025 financial audit to completion, and lead the transition from QuickBooks to a modern ERP. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will be the accounting backbone of Vitable. You will not be doing the bookkeeping yourself - you will be overseeing the team that does, ensuring quality, enforcing controls, and building the financial infrastructure for scale.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Vitable's primary accounting owner, overseeing our accounting partner firm and ensuring the integrity of all financial reporting
- Be the day-to-day contact for our financial audit, managing the PBC list, workpaper quality, and auditor relationships to complete the 2025 audit
- Oversee the monthly close process in partnership with Graphite, reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
- Enforce controls around health plan money movement (PC and TPA disbursements), vendor payments, and third-party invoice review
- Lead the evaluation and selection of a next-generation ERP (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and own the migration from QuickBooks
- Deliver monthly financial reporting packages to the VP of Finance for leadership and board consumption
- Build and document internal controls, accounting policies, and SOPs that scale with the business
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on federal and state filings
- Proactively identify workflow issues or gaps in our finance processes. Propose and implement solutions, whether it's automating a spreadsheet, adjusting a process in QuickBooks, or creating a new report to improve efficiency, accuracy, and service quality in our finance operations.
Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred (or equivalent work experience).
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a senior accounting, assistant controller, or controller capacity
- Strong US GAAP knowledge, including month-end close procedures, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Experience managing external audit relationships (PBC coordination, workpaper preparation, auditor management)
- Experience working with outsourced or fractional accounting teams
- Familiarity with ERP selection and/or implementation (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar)
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online
- Exceptional written English communication skills (this is a remote, async-heavy role)
- CPA or equivalent certification preferred
- Strong attention to detail. You're meticulous and thorough. Whether it's reconciling accounts to the last cent or double-checking an invoice, you catch discrepancies and ensure accuracy in all financial records.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills. You'll be communicating with our U.S. team and sometimes directly with customers or vendors via email.
- A self-starter attitude with a strong sense of ownership over your work. You manage your tasks and time efficiently, meet deadlines consistently, and maintain high productivity with minimal supervision. When you spot a problem, you take initiative to solve it, and you always follow through on your responsibilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment. You can juggle multiple tasks and are flexible as priorities change. Experience in a startup or handling a broad range of duties is a plus.
- Trust is key in finance. We need someone who is honest, can handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality, and can be relied upon to consistently do what they say they will do.
- While your day-to-day is numbers, you know those numbers represent real healthcare for our members. We're looking for someone who is excited to support Vitable's mission of affordable, accessible care through diligent financial work. Every dollar you track helps make healthcare more accessible to those who need it.
This is a full-time, remote contract position based in the Philippines, aligned with U.S. Pacific business hours. The regular schedule is: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM-6:00 PM Pacific Standard Time, which is equivalent to 9:00 PM-6:00 AM Philippine Time (night shift in PH). This schedule corresponds to daytime working hours in the U.S. (Pacific Time), so you'll be collaborating live with our U.S.-based team throughout your shift. Flexibility in occasionally adjusting hours is a plus (for example, during Audit Season (Hours likely shift to 2 hours earlier 7:00 AM-4:00 PM Pacific Standard Time, to better overlap with auditors for at least a few times a week) or if there are urgent tasks), but generally your work will follow the above consistent schedule.
