Underwriting Assistant - Political Risk & Credit (PRC)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Underwriting Assistant to join our Political Risk & Credit (PRC) team. This role provides critical support to underwriters in managing complex international commercial business. The ideal candidate will have strong financial acumen, exceptional organizational skills, and a solid understanding of end-to-end underwriting processes.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide broad underwriting support to the underwriting teams.
  • Collaborate closely with brokers and clients to ensure all relevant submission and modeling data is provided to initiate the underwriting process.
  • Work closely with Catastrophe Modeling and Actuarial teams for pricing targets.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and company approach.
  • Review and prepare contract wordings to ensure language/clauses and relevant subjectivities are satisfied.
  • Manage the workflow of all deals within the business unit.
  • Maintain electronic filing for all business entries.
  • Process all bound submissions and endorsements in SICS Accounting System.
  • Consult with and assist both Accounting and Claims teams on premium/loss related queries.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Collaborate and correspond with internal and external contacts to achieve a high level of service and meet client expectations.
  • Interact directly with various business partners and internal departments such as claims, accounts, and legal.
  • Meet departmental service standards for underwriting guidelines, file compliance, and audits.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned under minimal supervision.
  • Train, mentor, and coach new team members within the underwriting unit.

What We're Looking For

  • Excellent / Dynamic Communication Skills - ability to interact with global stakeholders.
  • Very Strong Financial Acumen / Math Skills - comfortable analyzing financial data and credit risk.
  • Solid Understanding of End-to-End Underwriting Processes - specifically in US / International Commercial Business.
  • Highly Organized / Meticulous Attention to Detail - manage multiple priorities accurately.
  • Experience with Accounting, Billing & Collections - a strong plus.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 3-5 years of industry experience required.
  • Knowledge of insurance policy forms and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Strong customer service focus with ability to multi-task with limited direction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
