ABOUT THE ROLE
The UI/UX Designer owns the user experience across all digital products of our client the client's Progressive Web App, React Native mobile applications (iOS & Android), and all consumer-facing web properties. This role conducts user research, creates wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, maintains the design system, and collaborates closely with developers in India and the US to ensure pixel-perfect implementation. The designer bridges the gap between business requirements, user needs, and technical feasibility, delivering designs that are beautiful, accessible, and buildable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
User Research & Discovery
- Conduct user research interviews, surveys, usability testing, analytics review to inform design decisions.
- Create user personas, journey maps, and task flows based on research insights.
- Analyze user behavior data (heatmaps, session recordings, analytics) to identify UX improvement opportunities.
- Facilitate design thinking workshops with stakeholders to align on product direction.
- Benchmark competitor products and industry best practices for health and wellness digital experiences.
UI/UX Design & Prototyping
- Create wireframes, user flows, and low-fidelity mockups for feature discovery and stakeholder alignment.
- Design high-fidelity UI mockups in Figma for web (React) and mobile (React Native) platforms.
- Build interactive prototypes in Figma for usability testing and developer handoff.
- Design responsive layouts that work seamlessly across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints.
- Create mobile-specific designs that respect platform conventions (iOS Human Interface Guidelines, Material Design).
- Design micro-interactions, animations, and transitions that enhance user experience without compromising performance.
Design System & Component Library
- Maintain and evolve the Mercola design system in Figma colors, typography, spacing, components, patterns.
- Ensure design system components map directly to React/React Native component library for developer alignment.
- Create and document new design tokens (colors, spacing, typography) with developer-friendly naming conventions.
- Enforce design consistency across all products through regular design audits.
- Collaborate with the Senior React Developer (US) on design-to-code alignment and component API decisions.
Accessibility & Inclusive Design
- Design with WCAG 2.1 AA compliance as a baseline color contrast, text sizing, touch targets, focus states.
- Create accessible interaction patterns for users with disabilities screen reader support, keyboard navigation.
- Collaborate with QA Engineer (Mobile) on accessibility testing validation.
- Document accessibility specifications in design files for developer implementation.
Developer Handoff & Collaboration
- Prepare detailed developer handoff in Figma specs, assets, responsive breakpoints, interaction notes.
- Participate in Architecture Review meetings to assess UX impact of technical decisions.
- Review implemented designs against mockups provide feedback and approve visual quality.
- Collaborate with India development team on implementation questions, edge cases, and design adjustments.
- Coordinate with QA team to validate visual and interaction fidelity of shipped features.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- 35 years of UI/UX design experience for web and mobile applications.
- Figma expertise advanced component creation, auto-layout, prototyping, design systems, Dev Mode handoff.
- User research skills interviews, usability testing, data-driven design decisions.
- Responsive web design designs that work across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints.
- Mobile design proficiency iOS (Human Interface Guidelines) and Android (Material Design) conventions.
- Design system experience created or maintained design systems with token-based architecture.
- Accessibility knowledge WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, inclusive design patterns.
- Developer collaboration understands React component architecture; provides implementation-ready specs.
- Visual design skills strong typography, color theory, layout, and visual hierarchy.
- Portfolio required demonstrable web + mobile design work with case studies.
- Good English communication presents design rationale clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
NICE TO HAVE
- Basic HTML/CSS knowledge for understanding implementation constraints.
- Motion design skills Lottie, After Effects, Principle.
- Experience with health, wellness, or e-commerce product design.
- Familiarity with AI/ML product design patterns (chatbots, recommendation UIs, health coaching interfaces).
- Experience with design-to-code tools (Figma to React plugins).
- Illustration or iconography skills.
