Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepares (e.g. rinses, disinfects) machines and equipment prior to hemodialysis treatments,
removes disposables and cleans the station after each treatment, cleans/disinfects dialysis
machines according to procedure;
- Calibrates reprocessing machines prior to the start of every shift and collects used dialyzers
in assigned area in order to prevent and control spillage and contamination;
- Reprocesses used dialyzers and assesses these in terms of acceptability, labels these and
records its re-use number, ensures these are monitored and stored in an orderly manner;
- Monitors maintenance records and conducts regular consultations with clinic staff to ensure
that preventive and predictive maintenance of dialysis machines and equipment are carried
out;
- Coordinates repairs on dialysis machines and equipment with Technical Services personnel;
provides assistance when necessary;
- Prepares consumables needed for treatment, assists the Staff Nurse during water testing at
the beginning of every shift and coordinates replenishment of stocks to ensure availability of
Stock Room supplies;
- Prepares progress reports on the utilization rate, maintenance history and pending repairs of
all machines and equipment in the clinic;
- Assists Staff Nurses in pre- and post- dialysis assessment of patients, emergency operational
procedures and conduct of cardiopulmonary resuscitation on patients during cardiac arrest
situations; Provides appropriate documentation, when and where applicable;
- Assists nurses in receiving patients into the treatment area, transporting them into the dialysis
station, recording patients vital signs prior to treatment, weighing them before and after
treatment;
- Assists the Unit Head in coordinating with the Purchasing Group on the delivery status of
machinery/equipment parts ordered and updates maintenance records accordingly;
- Assists in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the clinic's facilities; ensures that Stock
Room items are secure
