Creates the internal development and external client technical documentation for Engineering functions Powertrain system clients. This position owns taking detailed engineering descriptions from a developers perspective and transform it into specifications, guidelines, and process descriptions for a technically adept audience. A key responsibility is independent collaboration with the technical function (s) to publish revision-controlled artifacts, as assigned of foreseen. This position will track and complete needed documentation support tasks to share information during integration of powertrain in partner programs. This role reports to the Director of Powertrain Applications engineering while managing work assignments through task tracking and project development methodology tools, including managing the delivery of artifacts to powertrain clients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
ؠGather information and field documentation requests from subject matter experts (e.g engineers, quality assurance, software developers, technicians, etc.);
ؠCollaborate with engineers and technicians to document processes;
ؠComprehend and extract system operation information from engineering documentation and tools (schematics, system specifications, and pseudo-code);
ؠProduce high quality documentation (e.g Technical Guidelines, Graphical System architectures, component or system specifications, modification procedures, and possibly web tools) that meet professional publishing standards and bring existing content up to date;
ؠCopy- edit content accuracy by collaborating to validate information accuracy, perform peer review of others content, and invite critique through review processes;
ؠStrategize and implement development document process improvements;
ؠSource, modify, and use photos and graphics appropriately including requesting figures from technical staff to highlight areas of interest to document end-users;
ؠManage tasks and information flow using collaboration software such as JIRA, Confluence, Smartsheet, Draw.io and custom databases;
ؠAdopt and further develop powertrain information architecture system;
ؠReduce complex technical concepts into concise, complete, and understandable copy;
ؠPrioritize work to manage time spent on tasks to achieve an appropriate level of detail;
ؠEffectively and creatively communicate with team members remotely;
ؠCollaborate with Powertrain Program Management to deliver technical documentation in a remote work environment with deadlines;
ؠMust be flexible to work independently and judiciously interact with internal teams and clients;
ؠActively participate in identifying work products for continuous technical documentation improvements to apply development methodology;
ؠKeeping on top of workload to communication change impacts due to priority adjustments;
ؠAdept at writing for translation or localization experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ؠ3-5 years experience in technical writing of software documentation with knowledge of content development publishing toolsets;
ؠBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field; Certificate in Technical Writing, or equivalent professional experience will be considered;
ؠMarkup language experience (HTML,XML,XLS or SGML);
ؠStructured authoring tool use (oXygen, XMetal, Azure);
ؠContent Management System (CMS) use experience (Team Center, Salesforce);
ؠKnowledge of Atlassian Confluence and JIRA collaboration tools;
ؠDocumentation strategy and architecture experience;
ؠWriting style training in Simplified Technical English, S1000D, MIL-STD, MSW, or custom style guide creation or contributions;
ؠPortfolio of hardcopy or softcopy writing samples and projects;
ؠWorking knowledge of Adobe in Design is a plus;
ؠAutomotive Technical Authoring experience.
