Job Description

The Technical Support Pipe Fitter plays a critical role in supporting the successful execution of piping system installations, maintenance, testing, and repairs across multiple projects. This position serves as a technical resource for field operations, ensuring that all work meets engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on pipefitting experience, a solid understanding of mechanical systems, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. This role requires both field presence and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues, enhance productivity, and maintain system integrity.

Key Responsibility

  • Interpret and analyze technical drawings, including piping layout diagrams, isometric drawings, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Provide on-site or remote technical support to pipefitting teams during installation, testing, and commissioning of piping systems.
  • Assisting in the selection of appropriate materials, tools, and methods for various piping applications including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and PVC systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable safety standards, codes, and project specifications.
  • Support coordination between engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless execution of project plans.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues such as leaks, misalignments, stress-induced deformations, and performance inefficiencies in piping systems.
  • Participate in site inspections, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures, and system testing including hydrostatic and pneumatic tests.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior pipefitters and assist in conducting training or technical up skilling sessions as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of technical issues, resolutions, and field observations for project reporting and future reference.

Educations

  • Technical diploma or certification in pipefitting, mechanical systems, or a related discipline

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of proven experience in pipefitting; prior exposure to technical support roles is highly desirable.
  • Industry experience in Oil & Gas, HVAC, Industrial, Shipbuilding/Marine, or other heavy engineering sectors is preferred.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Strong familiarity with pipefitting techniques including welding, threading, grooving, bending, and assembly.
  • Skilled in the use of industry-standard tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in demanding field environments (e.g., confined spaces, elevated areas).
  • Willingness to work on-site, travel to project locations, or work on shifts as required by the project timeline.

Work Conditions

  • Field-based work with occasional office coordination.
  • May require extended hours or weekend work depending on project demands.
