Job Description
Responsibilities
- Oversee the technical performance, reliability, and operational readiness of assigned vessels.
- Monitor vessel maintenance programs and ensure planned maintenance activities are completed within required timelines.
- Coordinate dry-docking, repairs, surveys, upgrades, and other major technical projects.
- Review vessel performance data and recommend measures to improve machinery efficiency, fuel consumption, and equipment reliability.
- Liaise with Masters, Chief Engineers, classification societies, flag authorities, shipyards, and service providers on technical matters.
- Ensure vessels comply with applicable class requirements, statutory regulations, company procedures, and maritime industry standards.
- Prepare and manage vessel technical budgets while maintaining effective control of repair, maintenance, and spare-part expenditure.
- Evaluate technical defects and machinery issues, providing timely guidance and arranging appropriate corrective actions.
- Conduct vessel inspections and technical audits to assess condition, maintenance standards, safety, and operational performance.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related maritime discipline a valid Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency is highly desirable.
- Minimum 5-8 years of relevant marine engineering experience, including sea-going experience as a Chief Engineer or Second Engineer and/or shore-based superintendent experience.
- Strong knowledge of vessel machinery, planned maintenance systems, dry-docking, class and statutory requirements, and international maritime regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical budgets, contractors, repair projects, vessel performance, and multiple operational priorities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, leadership, and stakeholder-management skills, with the flexibility to travel and attend vessels when required.
- Support incident investigations, technical risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives across the managed fleet.
