The Opportunity
We aren't a volume shop. As a boutique, retained search firm, we partner with high-growth, venture-backed startups to solve their hardest hiring problems. Every search we run is retained and executed with executive-search rigor: a small, deliberate caseload, original market research, and a methodology built around finding the right person rather than the fastest one.
Most of our work sits at Staff through Principal for individual contributors and Director through VP for leadership, spanning technical functions within Startups (Engineering, Product Management, Design and Analytics).
We're looking for a Technical Researcher / Sourcer who treats recruiting as an investigative craft. You'll be the research engine behind our searches, building comprehensive market maps, developing original talent intelligence, and surfacing the people other firms never reach.
Core Responsibilities
- Market Mapping & Talent Research — Lead deep-dive research to chart the talent ecosystem around each search. Map team structures at top-tier startups and incumbents, track where the strongest people cluster, and build the kind of complete landscape view that turns a hard search into a solvable one.
- Talent Intelligence — Go beyond names. Develop a point of view on headcount trends, funding rounds, org changes, and competitor movement, then translate it into intelligence that shapes how we and our clients approach each search.
- Strategic Sourcing — Build high-signal candidate pipelines for senior IC and leadership roles using LinkedIn Recruiter, GitHub, Crunchbase, patent and publication searches, and whatever specialized channels a given niche demands. Precision over volume.
- Search Strategy — Partner on calibration and search design. Because we run a retained, exec-search-style process, your research directly informs positioning, target lists, and outreach strategy from day one.
- Data Integrity — Maintain pristine market maps and talent lists in Google Sheets so our research stays accurate, current, and immediately actionable.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Years Sourcing / Research within an engineering or technology sector. Executive Search or deep research working on deeply technical roles is preferred.
- LinkedIn Recruiter Mastery — You know the tool cold and can build the searches that find the needle in the haystack.
- Research Depth — You enjoy the hunt. You're comfortable spending hours inside a single niche to produce a complete, defensible map of the market and the 100 best people in it.
- Startup Fluency — You understand talent density across the ecosystem: which companies build the strongest people, and what it takes to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Investigative Instinct — You don't stop at the obvious sources. You triangulate across GitHub, patents, publications, conference talks, and team pages to find people who aren't findable any other way.
