GeekBooks is a growing online accounting and bookkeeping services firm supporting a diverse portfolio of Australian clients. We are focused on accurate, timely and high-quality service delivery while building an accountable, collaborative and continuously improving remote team.

About the Role

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Team Leader to oversee the day-to-day delivery and performance of our bookkeeping and accounting team. This is a hands-on technical and people leadership role covering team supervision, workflow allocation, client portfolio oversight, review and quality control, Australian compliance support and process improvement.

You will act as a key point of contact between the team, clients and management. You will help ensure work is accurate, deadlines are met, team members are supported and client service standards remain consistently high.

Location: Remote, Philippines or India

Engagement: Full-Time Contractor

Working Hours: Aligned with Australian business hours

Salary Range: A$2,400 - A$3,100 per month (depending on experience and capability)

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Workflow Management

• Lead, support and coach a remote team of bookkeepers and accountants.

• Allocate work and monitor team capacity, priorities, deadlines and delivery.

• Review work quality and provide clear, practical and constructive feedback.

• Conduct regular team check-ins and support the onboarding and development of new team members.

• Address workflow, quality or performance issues promptly and professionally.

• Build a collaborative, accountable and service-focused team environment.

Client & Portfolio Management

• Oversee a portfolio of Australian bookkeeping and accounting clients.

• Ensure client requirements for bookkeeping, payroll, reporting and compliance support are completed accurately and on time.

• Act as an escalation point for complex client queries, service issues and technical matters.

• Maintain professional and proactive communication with clients and internal stakeholders.

• Monitor outstanding information and follow up to keep work progressing.

Technical Review & Australian Compliance

• Review bank reconciliations, transaction allocations, financial reports and completed jobs.

• Oversee accurate and timely financial processing and maintenance of client records.

• Guide the team on BAS, IAS, payroll, STP and related Australian compliance processes.

• Monitor lodgement and reporting deadlines and escalate potential risks, delays or data issues.

• Ensure work follows internal procedures, quality standards, confidentiality requirements and agreed client deadlines.

• Provide technical support on Australian bookkeeping, accounting and tax compliance matters within the scope of the role.

Training, Reporting & Process Improvement

• Coach and mentor team members on bookkeeping practices, software, compliance and internal procedures.

• Identify skills gaps and support appropriate training and professional development.

• Provide management with clear visibility over workflow, capacity, risks, quality and delivery.

• Identify inefficiencies and recommend practical improvements to systems, workflows and client service processes.

• Support software implementation, workflow optimisation and priority operational projects.

• Maintain relevant trackers, procedures and process documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline.

• At least five years of bookkeeping, accounting or tax compliance experience.

• At least two years of experience leading or supervising a bookkeeping or accounting team.

• Strong working knowledge of Australian bookkeeping and compliance processes.

• Hands-on experience with bank reconciliations, transaction allocations, financial reports, BAS, IAS, payroll and STP.

• Experience managing multiple Australian client accounts or portfolios.

• Strong experience using Xero, MYOB or similar accounting software.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

• Strong leadership, organisation, judgement and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage competing priorities independently in a remote, deadline-driven environment.

• Availability to work hours aligned with Australian business operations.

Highly Regarded

• Xero or MYOB certification.

• Experience supporting an Australian bookkeeping, accounting or professional services firm.

• Experience leading an offshore or geographically distributed team.

• Experience improving accounting workflows or implementing new systems.

• Exposure to practice-management or task-management platforms.

• Experience preparing operational, workflow or quality reports for management.
