About the Role

The Communications Strategist is responsible for leading the development of insight-driven brand and communication strategies across new business pitches and existing client portfolios. This role bridges data, cultural insight, and creativitytranslating market intelligence into inspiring strategic directions that unlock powerful creative work.

Working closely with the Head of Strategy, the Communications Strategist will guide a Jr. Comms Planner or Trainee while partnering with Creative, Accounts, and Digital Media teams to ensure all executions are grounded in strong, differentiated thinking. The ideal candidate brings analytical rigor, cultural curiosity, digital fluency, and the ability to shape compelling strategic narratives that win pitches and drive brand growth.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Intelligence & Market Analysis
  • Lead rapid strategic audits for pitch opportunities, identifying brand pain points, growth opportunities, and communication gaps.
  • Conduct market, category, and competitive scans to uncover emerging trends, consumer tensions, and cultural shifts.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external research agencies for deeper insight requirements when necessary.
  • Translate quantitative and qualitative data into clear, actionable strategic implications.
  • Present insight-driven narratives and recommendations to senior leadership and clients with clarity and confidence.

  • Communications & Brand Strategy Development
  • Develop overarching brand and communication strategies that serve as the foundation for all creative executions.
  • Craft inspiring strategic briefs that unlock breakthrough creative ideas.
  • Define target audiences, behavioral drivers, key messaging frameworks, and channel ecosystems.
  • Ensure communication strategies are culturally relevant, insight-led, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Evaluate campaign effectiveness and refine communication approaches based on performance data and learnings.

  • Pitch Leadership & Business Growth
  • Play a leading strategic role in new business pitches from brief interpretation to final presentation.
  • Identify white space opportunities and articulate clear brand positioning territories.
  • Support the Head of Strategy in shaping persuasive pitch narratives and strategic storytelling.

  • Innovation & Digital Integration
  • Integrate digital, social, and emerging technologies into communication planning frameworks.
  • Advise internal teams and clients on best practices across digital ecosystems, performance marketing, and content platforms.
  • Stay ahead of trends in AI, automation, data privacy, immersive technologies, and evolving consumer behavior.
  • Champion innovation in how insights are gathered, interpreted, and applied within the agency.

  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead and mentor a Jr. Communications Planner or Trainee, ensuring strategic rigor and professional development.
  • Collaborate closely with Creative, Digital Media, and Account teams to align strategy with execution.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, analytical thinking, and creative ambition within the strategy team.
  • Support overall agency initiatives and operational responsibilities, including accurate time tracking and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in communications planning, brand strategy, or market research preferably within a creative, social, digital agency environment.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to or leading successful pitch strategies.
  • Proven ability to translate research and data into inspiring strategic direction.

Required Skills

  • Strong command of brand strategy, communications planning frameworks, and consumer insight methodologies.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics) and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau or similar).
  • Deep understanding of digital ecosystems, content platforms, and performance marketing principles.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, automation platforms, and emerging digital technologies.
  • Excellent storytelling and presentation skills able to simplify complexity into compelling narratives.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with both analytical discipline and creative instinct.
  • Ability to operate with agility in a fast-paced agency environment.
