We are seeking a motivated, technical Tax Associate to prepare federal, California, and multi-state tax returns for US individuals, businesses, and trusts. You will analyze client financial records, perform trial balance adjustments in QuickBooks Online, prepare tax returns using CCH Axcess and CCH Engagement software, and support tax projections and notice responses.
Your Impact
- Tax Preparation & Filings: Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns across individual (Form 1040), partnership (Form 1065), C Corporation (Form 1120), S Corporation (Form 1120-S), and fiduciary/trust (Form 1041) structures.
- CCH Suite & Financial Analysis: Utilize CCH Axcess and CCH Engagement software to process, input, and file tax returns while reviewing supporting client documentation and adjusting trial balances in QuickBooks Online.
- Tax Research & Notice Management: Research US Federal and California tax regulations to resolve compliance discrepancies, assist with annual tax planning/projections, and draft responses to IRS or state tax agency notices.
- File Maintenance & Compliance: Maintain audit-ready, up-to-date client files in accordance with firm policies, IRS requirements, and professional security standards.
What You Bring
- Education & Credentials: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is a strong plus but not required.
- The Experience:Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience preparing US federal and state tax returns (Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041) within a US public accounting or tax services firm.
- Software Mastery: Proficiency with CCH Axcess, CCH Engagement, and QuickBooks Online (QBO) alongside Microsoft Office.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of US federal and state tax laws, with working knowledge of California tax provisions and filing mechanics.
- Core Competencies: Dependable self-starter ability to work with minimal supervision, high attention to detail, strong time management under deadline pressure, and excellent written and verbal English communication.
